I had suspected deja vu.
Well a bassist's job it to provide a repetitive groove for the singers & dancers, so you could be right. :)

Hmm, how about something a little esoteric as in a 'Volute' of bass players? Or a 'Bridge', 'a saddle of...' or given the sheer amount of gear shifted over the years, how about a 'Truss (rod) of bass players'?
