sblueplanet
I plan to give my jazz bass a respray in another colour. However I like where the paint has come off in places back to the wood underneath. If, after initial sanding, I spray the colour direct without a primer coat, will this mean the bare wood areas will remain or is this just a bad idea? Horizontalste
Bad idea, the paint will most likely cover the body but you'll be able to see where the chips were. Plus there's no guarantee that the new paint will like the old paint.
Grangur
With any paint job the filler and primer covers the dimples and wood grain etc and gives the smooth finish. The colour just gives the colour only. with no primer it will simply look cr@p
