ducatiboyracer
I was trying to tune my Charvel Surfcaster bass, which had a medium guage standard set on it, to G D A E to work out how to play Red Hot Chilli Pepper's song By The Way. The E and A made it up G and D but the D staring bust at G#. I didn't try the 4 and a half steps increase needed to move the G string to an E. Could someone enlighten me on how I get this tuning right. Do I need to buy individual strings and if so what size for each? Or should I be tuning some strings down instead of up? Hector
You're reading that tuning in the wrong direction, surely?! It's lowest to highest E A D G or highest to lowest G D A E......... By lowest and highest I mean pitches. If you're a right handed player, the E string is the one closest to you. (p.s. Tune your E string down to D for playing By The Way). Horizontalste
Yep, wrong way around. By the way is either standard tuning or drop d, can't quite remember it's been so long since I played it. It's all about the ghost notes.
HowieBass
I'm having visions of the neck developing quite a bow if you try tuning everything up that far...
