I recently built (screwed together) a parts tele. I am hugely enjoying it but the non contoured bit which hits my rib cage when I sit down to play is uncomfortable. I accept that it is part and parcel of the beast. Do people route the back edge to make it easier on the ribs?

No, they just buy a Strat.

I think most folks just man up :)

This! The Tele is fine in its slabtasticness.

I want it built for comfort. I am lazy that way.

I was one who did go to the effort of routing the forearm and rib contours for my tele but it was never quite right. So I bought a hardtail strat body and routed the pickups and turned it into a tele... Perfect!

Get a really long strap?

It's the sitting down aspect that is uncomfortable.
