Owen
I recently built (screwed together) a parts tele. I am hugely enjoying it but the non contoured bit which hits my rib cage when I sit down to play is uncomfortable. I accept that it is part and parcel of the beast. Do people route the back edge to make it easier on the ribs?
essexbasscat
Indeed, my Telecaster '72 reissue deluxe FSR has that cutaway at the top edge as standard from the factory

Ancient Mariner
Same happens with a Les Paul. You can contour the back, or as suggested, buy a strat (Leo Fender's answer to the problem).

randythoades
I was one who did go to the effort of routing the forearm and rib contours for my tele but it was never quite right. So I bought a hardtail strat body and routed the pickups and turned it into a tele... Perfect! Bassman Rich
Wait 20 years, whilst drinking lots of beer and many late night curries, I think you'll find the required padding needed takes care of itself.
