Owen Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I recently built (screwed together) a parts tele. I am hugely enjoying it but the non contoured bit which hits my rib cage when I sit down to play is uncomfortable. I accept that it is part and parcel of the beast. Do people route the back edge to make it easier on the ribs?
essexbasscat Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Indeed, my Telecaster '72 reissue deluxe FSR has that cutaway at the top edge as standard from the factory
Dad3353 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 A Tele 'belly cut'...
RhysP Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014
Do people route the back edge to make it easier on the ribs?
No, they just buy a Strat.
wateroftyne Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 I assumed this thread was about the Eurovision Song Contest.
Ancient Mariner Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Same happens with a Les Paul. You can contour the back, or as suggested, buy a strat (Leo Fender's answer to the problem).
JapanAxe Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014
I think most folks just man up
This! The Tele is fine in its slabtasticness.
Owen Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014
This! The Tele is fine in its slabtasticness.
I want it built for comfort. I am lazy that way.
randythoades Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I was one who did go to the effort of routing the forearm and rib contours for my tele but it was never quite right. So I bought a hardtail strat body and routed the pickups and turned it into a tele... Perfect!
randythoades Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Well Mr Leo Fender did lots of experimenting and I am just following in those footsteps!! Works for me...!
randythoades Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 In fact, it worked so well, I did it twice!
Mr Arkadin Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Actually the one without the pick guard looks better to me.
Owen Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014
Get a really long strap?
It's the sitting down aspect that is uncomfortable.
Bassman Rich Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Wait 20 years, whilst drinking lots of beer and many late night curries, I think you'll find the required padding needed takes care of itself.
