fleabag
I was just wondering how anyone else sets their rack preamps when faced with 3 ' volumes ' as it were. Gain is first, Preamp vol next and then Master vol last, then Power Amp vol I keep the gain down, as i dont want any dirt, preamp vol 3 o'clock, master vol varies with what i need at the time. Power amp i always keep fairly high up, though not distorting, as i control the vol with the preamp master vol Is there a given way to do this, or is it just what ever takes yer fancy ? brensabre79
I think it greatly depends on the gear you're using and what sound you want to achieve. From the output of the bass onwards... but in general I think it's not good to have some flat out full and some barely on.
Greg Edwards69
The only thing I would suggest is running the preamp gain as high as possible without over-driving to get the signal to noise ratio and better dynamics.
fleabag
Yeah that would figure. The only one of those 3 thats on zero is the gain input, variable between -11db upto +30db

[/quote] Aye Greg - thats how i have it now. preamp vol on 3/4 , before any harshness, and with power amp on nearly full, control the overall wanted vol with preamp master Edited May 14, 2014 by fleabag
