Lownotelover Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I have just started playing bass again after 30 years. Not played since uni - no time - so I said.. My wife caught me gazing at a bass in a music shop and offered to buy it for Christmas. Said I wouldn't have time to play and she said 'you won't ever play it if you don't have it'. So I'm enjoying playing a fender again but I am effectively starting from scratch. Finding tutor books really frustrating. I really don't want to play Greensleeves on my bass. Any ways of fast tracking my learning gratefully received. Thanks Quote
madshadows Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Hi and welcome to Basschat. YouTube is great for learning stuff, also try Scott Devines site http://www.scottsbasslessons.com/. John Quote
HowieBass Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 (edited) +1 for Scott Devine - hours of content available (via his website and his YouTube channel). Oh and welcome back to bass playing (I was in a similar situation about 18 months ago) and welcome to Basschat! Edited May 14, 2014 by HowieBass Quote
great harry Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Welcome. I had exactly the same experience last year, except for me it was a 37 year break. I haven't looked back since. Quote
BassTractor Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Welcome, Lownotelover! Well, we've already established that you are older than 30 years of age, and most probably a male person of the non-female variety. This means you're a grown up man. Now, grown up men can play Greensleeves and be done with it before taking their chihuahua for a walk. Seriously though, here on BC already exists a lot of advice. If you have the economy for it, you could get several books in addition to the online lessons. There's a thread about the good ones of the books somewhere. These threads tend to be in General Discussion, but I couldn't find the one I was looking for. One newbie thread I did find is here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/227362-how-to-get-started-on-the-long-road/ . Also there's always the possibility of hooking up with a BC member local to you, which may be the best fast-tracking available, as a person seeing what you do can spare you for many time consuming detours. Good luck and enjoy! Bert Quote
