neepheid
I mean, between the Ripper and the Grabber?
Grabber - bolt on neck, Ripper - set neck Grabber - Flying V-esque headstock usually clearcoated, Ripper - traditional "Open book" headstock, always black Grabber - 1 single coil sliding pickup, Ripper - 2x Bill Lawrence designed sidewinder humbuckers Grabber - 1 volume, 1 tone, Ripper - 4 way "transfer switch" (pickup/series/parallel/phase selector), volume, mid cut, tone Grabber - Fender-esque bridge with side walls, Ripper - Gibson 3 point bridge Or go visit http://www.flyguitars.com/gibson/bass/ for all your Gibson bass information needs up to the early 80s And don't forget the other "cousin" - the Gibson G-3... GrammeFriday
Many thanks, neepheid! Much more helpful than the Google search I did earlier - top hit was to a TalkBass page on this question, which contained insightful gems such as "One rips, one grabs." BassTractor
And don't forget the other "cousin" - the Gibson G-3...
Good call that, and thanks also for the list! I'd forgotten most of it, but after your list now do remember how we used to look at headstock colour when one was on tv. No HDTV then. @GrammeFriday, also note that the G-3 has three single coils, so the three models are quite easy to discern from each other. With the different phasing options, the G-3 might possible rip AND grab, Idunno.
GrammeFriday
Ah, Basschat. Yesterday I knew nothing about these basses. Now I know almost everything (well, apart from how they feel to play). Thanks again, gents. Rather liking the band in the video, too. Sort of jazz, sort of post rock, pretty good.
