xilddx Posted November 7, 2014 Posted November 7, 2014 Just got my 1961 Gibson Melody Maker back from Martin at the Bass Gallery. He routed a neck pickup in, new wiring, side jack fitted, sanded the back of the neck to satin, and a full setup. It plays and sounds golden. Wonderful instrument.

Lasermonkey Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I consider myself equally at home on guitar or bass these days. I started off as a guitar player and ended up playing bass basically (sorry) because someone had to! Anyway, guitars. Plus a First Act guitar i bought for twenty quid. That lives in the shed and is used to test the pedals I make. You could say I have a few!
BigRedX Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 (edited) That's a nice range of instruments. What's the one 3rd from the right? Edited November 11, 2014 by BigRedX
Lasermonkey Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 It's a Kawai S170, circa '63-'67 I believe. It has a pickup missing and a neck like a 4x2, but it sounds amazing.

Lasermonkey Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Here ya go! As you can see. there's a non-original pickup in there and one is missing. The missing one is around somewhere, for some reason I just haven't got around to re-fitting it. I'm still on the lookout for a replacement pickup for the non-original one. The knobs aren't original. They're actually from a cooker! I think I still have the originals and really ought to put them back on.
I need a tour-able case for this. I've searched but only come up with ugly flight cases. Any ideas? Gibson don't make one I'd like something relatively airline-proof, but with a trad look, tweed or something. Guess I'll have to go custom, but where from? Thanks in advance for for any help.

Tweed does damage easy though. Good luck.
xilddx Posted December 1, 2014 Posted December 1, 2014 Thanks chaps! I'm going to see if there's a hard case made for a Gibson LP Junior or double cut as they are flat tops. No luck so far though but I'm sure summat will turn up. Not for Christmas though sadly. Thanks again for your help. I may have to approach the case makers you've recommended. Cheers Nx
gelfin Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 I made the twin neck bass first and my son nagged me to make him a guitar version (on the left) This is my latest thin string project. xilddx Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Got one of these on the way. May need an insert to thicken the body padding but it should be more or less right. Excited! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281517827067?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
AndyTravis Posted December 14, 2014 Posted December 14, 2014 Have been a bassist since 1997, but love playing guitar. Sang and played guitar in a band for years. Sold my last 6 string guitar (a Gretsch) last year because we were skint. The mother in law has just given me an early Christmas present (or the money for) this..(very lucky boy) http://instagram.com/p/wmaGetuQT2/

DaytonaRik Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 Another guitarist turned bassists here - played in originals and cover bands for 20 odd years. When I was in a band as a vocalist only the bass player quit so I stepped into the breach...I should have done it years ago! Down to just 4 guitars at the mo - a lovely 1996 Patrick Eggle Berlin Pro, a 2006 SG Standard, an NJ series BC Rich Assassin slab top 'super strat' and a cracking 1986 Godin Acousticaster deluxe. This was my setup - I still have the rack gear but sadly the Les Paul and Firebird are no longer in the collection. I miss playing guitar in a band tbh!
Angel Posted January 30, 2015 Posted January 30, 2015 My no 1 guitar as of .... last October I think? A Feline 20th anniversary Lion.

It's a major trek for me but I generally go there for guitar repairs etc.
tauzero Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Mrs Zero and I play in an acoustic duo for which I use a Variax on one of the acoustic settings.
