Hi guys, I've been registered for a few months but only active in the marketplace area. I'd like to contribute to the forum from now on and this seems the way to start.

I'm a Spanish bass player living currently in Belfast. I've been playing bass for 13 years now and had quite a decent amount of gear over the years. Currently my main bass is a P+J Fender Road Worn Jazz Bass tuned BEAD, a MarkBass SA450 head with a Nemesis 1x15" cabinet and lots, lots of pedals.

If any of you are from Belfast I would be more than happy to meet, have some beers and jam (I also play a bit of guitar).

Cheers!

Hello IBWT -

Pleasure to meet you here. For some lovely low end rumblings get yourself down to The Empire on a Tuesday night for Mr. Conor McCreanor and to The John Hewitt on a Thursday night for Mr. Trevor Dyer - two absolutely wonderful bass players and fine gentlemen indeed.

Does Trev still do that gig on a Thursday Gareth? Must get down some night!

+1 for the Tuesday slot at the Empire too - great stuff.

Hi Gareth thank you for the advice, I will gladly follow them :)

The B stands for something much more obvious than Belfast...

Hey Danny - he does indeed. And does so very damn well. And thru an old SWR combo - gets such a gloriously solid tone.

Gets a great sound , is he still playing that 5 string stingray ? Very tight bottom end ....and the bass isn't bad either ...boom crash !!

Conor also is a gentleman and a great player.

Still has the Stingray but you'll most likely see him with his Lakland. Don't blame him - he loaned me his Stingray for a recording session a while back - that thing would break your back!!!

Nowt wrong with a Lakland!

Hi IBWT I've lived in Belfast for about 10 yrs but now in Edinburgh. You'll enjoy Belfast and for good food (and now beer) go to BubbaQue and bask in their slow cooked meaty delights.

Welcome IBWT.

Belfast is a good city for live music. A couple of good suggestions there from Gareth.

I'll be in the John Hewitt myself tomorrow night to listen to some great playing and singing.

Frank.

Ola, que tal?

Just up the road a bit but lived in Belfast for many years and grew up just outside it. Always had a good music scene.

Feliz la navidad.......mas o menos? ;-)

In blondes we trust ?

Can't beat a bit of the Empire, either upstairs or the lower room stage either which requires considerable skill as it's so small - or it used to be anyhow, I haven't been in over twelve years. It was the first place I've ever seen a singer vomit over the drummer. Quite spectacular when you saw the drummers reaction - on a tiny stage where there's room for a gnat fart and little else. I have such fond memories of sixth form rugby training in that place.

Thank you all for your warm welcome.

It´s been a bit difficult for me these last months... different language, totally different climate and even though there´s a healthy music scene I am having some trouble searching bands to join. Back in Spain I could just go to a couple of forums and place an ad at the local rehearsal rooms and that was all, but here the forums I´ve visited are not very active and the rehearsal rooms are small and scattered all over the city.

The Empire is such a lovely venue, I´m looking forward to playing there some time... been yesterday night for the Kings of Lyon and the sound and lights were top notch.

Cheers to you all

Lets not forget the magical Dee Kyle on sound desk, taught me at Bangor Tech for 4 years.

The epitome of a legend.

DEE!!!!!!!!!! A legend for sure. Last gig I did with Dee, we'd no sooner finished the soundcheck when he was blasting Slyer through the PA. Big smiles.

IWBT - another place to check out is Filthy McNasty's on the Dublin Road. Good singer/songwriter usually plays in there called Pete Wallace, some Friday/Sat nights he has bass and drums with him under the name The Russian Dolls.

And sorry about the weather. I've lived here most of my life and I'm still not used to it.

I´ve been there yesterday evening, such a lovely place. It´s more the kind of pub I´m used to, I still don´t fancy the ones in Cathedral Quarter for some reason... the weather is nice, it´s just the opposite to my hometown, but I like it (they say I´m crazy for thinking that).
