Hello chaps,

After my recent amp-y woes, thinking of ditching the combo and taking the plunge with head and cab - really liked the look of GB Streamliner 600 series. I know there's a spanking one on For Sale but I haven't the money just yet (DAMN), but was wondering if the Streamliner series just isn't being exported anymore as everywhere has discontinued it yet its still listed on the GB website?

I play with a bright, upper-mid sound with a sting ray to 'cut through' as it were...would welcome any suggestions, have a top budget of £800 (in a month or so..)

thanks!

Fender bought them and killed them off. There are a few places that still have them going cheap - check out Bass Direct, they have 2x Streamliner 600s going for £399!

Don't think a Streamliner will do the upper mid twangy thing too well.
Try a Gallien MB Fusion

JD1, a member on here, is selling a used one. Maybe drop him a PM if you are interested...

Bass Direct have no more 600's. So I got a 900.2 instead. Go me. £499 delivered early next week. If you don't have the funds right now, give them a call, they might hold one for you. I found them very helpful. And as I found the GB focus 4x10 cabs to be well put together I have no worries over any QC problems.

Ok My experience is minimal but since last week I'm having GK MB Fusion 500 with 210MNT Vanderkley. I've compared the amp with TH500 and GK for me sounds far much better - more dynamic, more alive. I'm trying to get streamliner 600 for comparison so if I succeed I'll contribute to this subject ... in the meantime GK MB fusion is all all right

Seems to be an awful lot of love for the fusion....is it really worth the extra £150? I'd have assumed a tube preamp would soften and warm up the growly mids I'm after?

I thought you were after a valve-like tone?

I've not heard the Fusion, but was very impressed with the MB 200 I heard, so GK could be right up your street.
The Streamliner is a great head, but I have the feeling that it won't have enough mid presence for you.
The Shuttle is incredibly versatile, and I'm sure you could easily get what you're after.

The Fusion will not have the 'classic' tube warmth to the kind of levels that the Streamliner does. There seems to be a lot of reviewers saying the pre adds more harmonic content but doesn't sound necessarily massively tube like.

The Streamliner really DOES sound tube like IMO.

If I were to go GK, I'd just get the MB800 and save the money!

I'd have thought a valve pre would curb some screaming MIDs? Mind you I play with a Sansamp cause I like the fat, semi distorted lows, so call me captain hypocrisy. What about hartke? Lh500 looms OK and HyDrive cabs, while expensive, could fit the bill with aluminium cones..

You may have a result by not currently having any money.

Bugera (owned by Behringer) will be releasing their new lightweight 2,000w (yes really) heads later this year (release date has been delayed a few times and there is no date currently). Rumoured to be in the £300 range (DV247 have them on their website with "£TBA".) and highly regarded following the NAMM show. Unfortunately nobody has them in the UK currently.

There's even a thread on here:

May well be a case of "good things come to those who wait..."
