Mornats Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 I'll let the link speak for itself but Bristol's iconic venue The Fleece is threatened by plans to convert an office building next door into flats. This is NOT a residential area and would threaten The Fleece with closure. https://www.change.org/petitions/bristol-city-council-save-the-fleece-from-closure Quote
ern500evo Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Signed. As a Bristolian, the Fleece is iconic, played there many times over the years. When I first started playing, the fleece and bierkeller were the two places all my young musician mates were desperate to play. Quote
Marvin Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Signed. There should be a special clause if the planning is granted...any new residents of the flats, who complain about any noise from the Fleece, should be placed in stocks outside the venue with a sign around them saying 'please throw rotten fruit at me as I am stupid'. If you buy/live in a new residence next to an established venue, tough. It really boils my urine this sort of thing. Quote
Raymondo Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Signed. Developer should be forced to soundproof the building, pay for any extra soundproofing needed at the Fleece and made to inform all purchasers that there is a music venue close by that they cannot complain about! Quote
Mornats Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 If they use any sort of wool insulation on The Fleece then The Fleece will be covered in fleece! Thanks for signing and sharing everyone. The Bristol Music Industry Network (Bmin) have been doing the same and we're almost at 30,000 signatures! Quote
RhysP Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Signed. We lost a great live music venue in Cardiff a few years ago for this very reason - one woman complained about the noise & that was it. Quote
Mykesbass Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Signed but it is really worrying these are coming throuh on an almost weekly basis now :-( Quote
madshadows Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Done Music venues seem to being closed down at an alarming rate recently, if it continues people wont have anywhere to share their music live to fans, a sad state of affairs !. John Quote
TheRev Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 It looks like half the population of Bristol are talking about this. Hopefully the petition will do some good. I've just this morning received a live recording of our Fleece gig earlier this month - we've done live recordings before, but there's something special about the Fleece. Quote
Pinball Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 A long long way to go but 18,000 signatures in a couple of days is good going. Keep the sigs coming in. I have a personal interest as I want to play there one day. Quote
Norm Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Done. My band Kohiba are playing there again on June 12th. It's a great venue. Quote
Subbeh Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Signed, sick of seeing things like this happen with music venues. Hope this one can be kept alive! Quote
Count Bassy Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Signed. MK11 in Milton Keynes is also under threat due to someone complaining. And it's on an industrial estate. Quote
miles'tone Posted May 25, 2014 Posted May 25, 2014 Signed and shared too. Love The Fleece, had many a great night there. Quote
