martthebass Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 Well we've had the 'best of' so in the best tradition of Channel 5 or Sky One what about a 'worst bassline ever'. I'll start shall I? What about Brimfull of Asha - Cornershop? Quote
mikeh Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 That sh*te one the Cranberries did, I cant even think of the name of the song it was that crap. Quote
wateroftyne Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 The Long and Winding Road. Anyone would think Lennon was trying to sabotage Macca's tune... Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 Any of a number of early Stones songs where Wyman mumbles along tunelessly on his fretless woolies special. Quote
markytbass Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 Skinny bop was it poison or skid row I don't care but it was cack Quote
anti-barbie Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007
Skinny bop was it poison or skid row I don't care but it was cack
If you mean Unskinny Bop, then it was by Poison. And i agree, it's boring, unimaginative and thoroughly carp Quote
thumb4bob Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 the tell me baby slap line one of the least imaginative slap lines ever by one of the kings of slap Quote
ronnus Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Simple Minds - Waterfront How hard must that have been to come up with.............. Quote
MacDaddy Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007
If you mean Unskinny Bop, then it was by Poison. And i agree, it's boring, unimaginative and thoroughly carp
but to be fair, the bass line is pretty much just a pedal throughout. You might not like the song, but you can't really say it's the worst bassline ever because of that. Quote
bw_user_name Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Unskinny Bop - worst bassline ever - votes please! Quote
Bassmasta89 Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 /posts a generic punk song with horrible one note bass line Quote
Musky Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 To be fair, most of those suggestions are just simple basslines - which doesn't make them crap per se. A crap bassline IMHO is one that actually detracts from a song. Something that Mark King has been guilty of at times. Quote

Simple basslines are effective supporting other parts of the music, ook they may be boring but they're not by default "crap" Quote
bass_in_ya_face Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007
Anything off the new Kings Of Leon album!
That 'on call' track winds me up...it's really badly produced as well as some of the vocals are clipped off before the end. Quote
Rich Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Can't remember its name, but there was some crappy rap 'tune' which ripped off part of the vocal from Foreigner's 'Cold As Ice'... just the "you're as cold as ice/willing to sacrifice" bit. The bass came from god knows where, but was horridly distorted and not even in the same key. It caused me pain to hear it. They even used it on a Colgate advert on the telly, and I had to change channel every time it came on. My other candidates are 'Baby Please Don't Go" by KC and the Sunshine Band, and "He Ain't Heavy" by the Hollies. Tuning is crap and the timing is worse. Quote

MK is the master (well, one of the masters) of the truly melodic bassline. Often his lines carry the melody of the entire song AND pin it down too. But I agree, his solos aren't great. Grooveless for the most part. Quote
Musky Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Yeah, Mark King is a first rate bass player. But when he really lets fly I think he can on occasions let his virtuosity get in the way of a song. Quote
stingrayfan Posted July 1, 2007 Posted July 1, 2007 Travis: "Why Does It Always Rain On Me" is a narcolepsy special. Credit to the guy for not overplaying, but it's dull as ditchwater, when you come to play it live! Quote
jamiepyrite Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Adam and the Ants - Prince Charming God, that is mind numbing to play live. I'd rather read washing machine instructions. Quote
artisan Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007
Maggie May... parts are good, but the remainder suggests drunkeness...
+1 i think this is some of the worst bass playing i've ever heard. Quote
