barry44
hi guys, i am getting a five string bass and i am unsure what strings to put on it. i normally use roto swingbass on my fours but i have recently moved across to the Hartke strings, which i prefer the feel of, i understand they are nickel. Can anyone recommend me a reasonably price set of strings fo the fiver? Cheers, Barry
bass_ferret
Just get a 5 string set of your favourite strings. Why do anything else?
fretlessguy
I would probably go with what bass ferret said. There is a light gauge 5 string version set of the Hartkes that I like and have used them before and was quite satisfied. Currently my two fives have on both of them a Fender set of 7250 light gauge strings (.40-.115). Hartke and Fender make both sets in medium as well, if that is what you prefer. Hartke does not have a stellar reputation for thier strings here in the states, but I found them both punchy and long lasting.
Lfalex v1.1
An alternative; Warwick Yellow labels are reasonbly priced and sound /feel good.
chris_b
The usual answer; DR Lo-Rider, MH5-130 45, 65, 85, 105, 130. They're the best 5 string set I've used.
