Chris Sharman Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Evening, following on from the work I have just had done on my Westone fretless I am now looking at my MIM jazz with itchy wallet. The Jazz is green (sage?) and has a white scratchplate fitted. I was thinking about replacing it the moment I bought it with a black one but Mrs S has had her way until now and I have not done anything to it other than a re-string. I am now looking to restring with flats having tried and loved them on my fretless and also after playing them on a Jazz at the East Mids Bass Bash and I figured now is the ideal time to have a go and do some of the other stuff I have thought about doing. So, learned purveyors of low frequency groovage I ask for your opinion on; a) Black or tortoiseshell plate on a sage green Jazz with Rosewood fretboard? Bridge pickup cover; Yay or Nay? c) Recommended flats to go on a Jazz bearing in mind I am used to Rotosound 66 rounds so far on my Jazz and TI Jazz flats on my fretless. Donnyboy Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Mmh , tort but what about a duck egg ( or whatever its called) option? Any pics? Quote
bh2 Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Mint or pearl with covers. My P is teal green metallic, looks super with pearl. Quote
Green Alsatian Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014
Mint or pearl with covers.
Absolutely this! Here are some pics of sage green Jazz basses with your two options: Quote
Chris Sharman Posted May 26, 2014 Author Posted May 26, 2014 Mmmm...so many decisions. I have to say I find the tortoiseshell to sit very well with the rosewood but the black looks more dramatic and I think black would suit the pickup cover better but your photos have given me much food for thought. Thanks all, Keep 'em coming. Quote
Matt P Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Mint or pearl for me, not usually a fan of pearl but it looks great the photo above. Quote
gsgbass Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 (edited) A Tort on a fretless. Edited February 9, 2015 by gsgbass Quote
Roland Rock Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 As long as you don't palm mute, I'd say tort with the ashtray. Proper retro. The jazz you tried at the bash wasn't zero9's Warmouth/Status job, was it? That was a lovely bass! Quote
Chris Sharman Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 It was indeed zero9's jazz. Made me want to kit my jazz out with flats and pickup cover. Quote
theyellowcar Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014
Gold anodised
Of your options, Tort. If it were me, white pearl! Quote

GCYPbass Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 +1 for Tort. Black pearl would be another option for me though. Quote
skywalker Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I have d'addario jazz flats on a Squier CV, lovely. Quote
Jono Bolton Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 (edited) I've thought about tort for my Sage Green Metallic Jazz, but I always end up staying with white, although my scratchplate has gone somewhat creamy. I personally hate the colour, I wish I'd never got it, but it was the only one in the shop and I was mightily hungover when I bought it and didn't want to leave empty handed. bh2 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 If you're not keen on pearl or white then I'd go mint.... prob anything but tort. Quote
Noisyjon Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 I would go for the Black/White/Black guard on that bass. Quote
