ACG Über Recurve 5

To cut a long story short I very very briefly owned an ACG bass over the last fortnight and everything about it just felt and sounded perfect so I was considering getting a custom build done

So made a trip to Moffat on Monday and played a few of the stock basses (including the ART Recurve which is quite simply perfect) and got an idea of his Filter preamps and different body shapes.

Into the workshop and was barraged by masses of different woods. So the specs are now chosen and deposit is paid. Excitement has kicked in and the waiting now begins!

Specs are :

Recurve 5 34"
Redwood Burl top, Black Limba body core, Purpleheart accent
5 Piece neck - Wenge/maple/purplehear/maple/Wenge
Spalted Maple fretboard
ACG DFM 4k preamp
2x Multi Coil 5 pickups

Will be a while but I shall update this as the process goes along as I found other peoples build threads helpful/interesting

For now, have this

Fantastic news mate!
I'm a big fan of Alan's work, currently having a 5 string made too, no build thread yet as the top is still on its way over from America...

That is going to be a lovely bass. What pickups are you going for?
I look forward to watching this come alive!

Nice.
Yup, if I could afford the Multi Coils I'd be doing the same, they really sound impressive, such clarity and authority.
Amazing stuff and worth every penny I'm sure, if only I had more pennies...

Why every luthier doesn't use this acrylic impregnated technique I'll never know, some of the woods you can use as fingerboards is crazy cool.

I guess he could do one with buckeye burl, now that would be something...

I'm not too sure, it's maybe hard to get hold of? Buckeye Burl would definitely be interesting! Although I find Buckeye Burl to be very hit or miss for my liking!

The guy that supplies me with the acrylic has retired and now only supplies two builders me being one of them. There is a limit to what you can use I suspect buckeye might not be possible.

Is burl in general to soft/spongy to use for this method?

Very slight change in spec for the Recurve. It's now going to be installed with the multi-coil pickups.

Awesome news mate, you won't regret it, the MC pickups are amazing!

Only used them very briefly when I specced the bass in May but was blown away by them (even with my extremely limited ability to use the DFM preamp!). I'm not clued up on the interface boards (I know there are 2 types) but I'm sure Alan will be able to keep me right.
