logicred
Hi all, I have a Rockingbetter 4003 Bass and have tried to restring it. I have purchased a set of GHS Bass boomers (long scale) and measured the fretboard to the bridge which is correctly 34". However, it has a long bridge on it and the strings enter it right at the edge of the bridge which means the part of the string where it tapers at the end is about 1cm from the nut thus the cotton part is actually on the fretboard! What am I missing here? I tried an old string from somewhere which was the same too. Am I supposed to get a different set for Rickenbacker style basses? Thanks
chrismuzz
Ahh! I've had this problem with 35" scale basses before, annoying! You could mess about pulling the cotton off the string until it's past the nut for now, it shouldn't cause too much of an issue. In future just look for Extra Long Scale strings. A fair few brands do them for an extra quid or too. If I remember correctly D'Addario strings are very long anyway, so I've never had to actually shell out for the Extra Long ones. Hope that helps! brensabre79
Yep as said above, you need to get Extra long scale strings to avoid running out of string before the taper / ribbon.. I wouldn't pull back the ribbon, the windings are more sparse under there. Most companies do them, personally i like the Elixir variety because they last a long time
