Well theres two transistors there, not opamps.

I don't think the Animato has been de-boxed from a DIY perspective, I can't see a schematic on a real quick Google search.
There are a few clones floating around, however how close these are to the original I don't know.

Hi guys, first time poster, long time lurker.

I took a look inside one of these a few days ago and started work on some schematics.

I put the links around a few places. Best place to grab it and get an understanding of the circuit is at diystompboxes.

Sorry for the necromancy on this thread, felt it was relevant and first to come up on a search so it should benefit those looking. :)

Amazing stuff Crowella, thank you for posting! I would not, in a million years, have guessed that the Animato was a Big Muff variant... :o

Thank you guys :)

Still working out the kinks. I got it running last night. The insane amount of gain was there but it sounded too bassy with not enough attack. I'm going to give a few things a try to try and match the sound since I may have made an error with one of the capacitor values. I also don't have the correct transistors so I'm going to have to err on the close enough is good enough side.

It's been good fun though. :)

EDIT: I got around to getting it working tonight, have a video!

Thank you heaps. :D

The attack was the main part I wanted to focus on. I can say that is about what I'd expect. It's the decay tone that isn't quite there yet. Again, I'm limited now by what I can get my hands on and considering I was using silicon transistors instead of those "mojo" germaniums (also lower gain ones in the big muff stage), I'm happy with where it's at. I'd gig it no issues right now but the perfectionist in me wants it virtually bang on.

Thank you heaps! :D

Going to set up a pre-order page tomorrow. If you want to guarantee one first, let me know. The pre-order will be $200 AUD including shipping and will be limited to 20 between this site and everywhere else. After pre-order, I will start to charge for shipping on top of the purchase which is approx $20 AUD. Basically, jump in now and its approx $175 USD, or £110

The pedals, if all goes to plan, should be ready and be shipped out early December. The enclosures and pcbs will be painted and etched externally to speed it up and make the builds consistent.

Pre-order details as well as other details are now available at my site if you would like one. They are selling for $200 AUD (this roughly translates to about $180 USD).

I'll apologise if I don't respond within the next few hours, I'm in dire need of sleep, it's 3:30am here.

Just wanted to say that I got the pedal from Crowella just before christmas and having used it a couple of times can confirm that it's absolutely ace! I'll post some samples ASAP

Would love to hear some samples of this! What you using to blend?

would have been awesome to have a clean blend incorporated into this
Yeah, think Adam (Crowella) has been working on this with his new "Bitmap" pedal. With this though, I think he just wanted to get a good, working clone of the original Animato out there and there was clearly a demand.

John K did an awesome clone with a clean blend, but they sold out ridiculously quickly. Details on that here. Would recommend that everyone checks out his "Bass Overdrives" page, the man's built so many great clones!...

Sorry for the lateness, the sample is here: http://rifffactory.co.uk/animated.mp3

I play the same riff 3 times, once on clean, once with just the animated on, and then once with the animated at 50% blend where I like it

There's absolutely no processing going on here, everything is flat
