Highfox
Never really been a fan of distortion or overdrive but recently added a Catalinbread SFT to the armoury, had been using it live as a stomp on for a bit of (tasteful lol) overdrive when needed. Went into record a couple of songs yesterday and after a couple of run-throughts the singer/guitarist suggested I try a bit of distortion/overdrive to give the bass a little more sustain during a slowish number we were working on and you know what? it worked a treat, I never would of thought the extra sustain it gave could of filled out and rounded the sound in the mix as it did.. You live and learn.. I had always been looking for the purist bass sound I could get , maybe not anymore.Thought I'd share I'll post it up once it's mixed and mastered. Lozz196
It`s amazing what a bit of drive does for bass. Listen to many classic basslines on their own, and there`s usually a fair bot of drive from the amps. Gets lost in the mix, generally you don`t hear the drive, ending up with really nice fat bass tones. Edited May 29, 2014 by Lozz196

It's funny I have been after pure tone (whatever that is) most of the time. I guess it's really more what sound/tone suits the music best.. I know I won't be scared to experiment a bit more with it. dannybuoy
My SFT is my nearly-always-on pedal! Set to low gain, it sounds like it's just on the edge of drive like when you start to push a speaker past its limits, warm compressed and woolly, like a sheep in a vice.
