b.a.s.s.p.o.r.n
Hi, everyone. Here's something new, on the high-end side of the spectrum. I searched for a thread on it and found none, so here it is. At this point, there are a discussion and a construction/presentation video (see below): no sound clips, as yet. Despite that, I think/expect it will be yet another wonder from Tom Ribbecke, albeit not for everyone's taste. It'd be great to hear your thoughts on this bass (or on Tom's work, in general), especially as more information on it becomes available. By all. KK Jale
Interesting. I once played a Halfling model six-string by Tom at the Montreal guitar show. It was beautiful, but Ken Parker's archtops left a far greater impression on me. High-end is right, I bet this bass will cost north of $30,000... philw
I had a go on a Ribbecke Halfling Boby Vega fretless at a NAMM show a few years back and despite the eye-watering price ticket my credit card was genuinely twitching. It was utterly gorgeous in every respect. Probably still the best bass I've ever played that I don't own. I'm sure the Ribbecke Diana will be a pretty extraordinary thing. I briefly looked for them but with no luck (read: I only found guitars). Thanks. No idea about price, but the amount you quoted does not sound completely implausible.
I cannot, as Parker has not made an archtop bass, to my knowledge. That paragraph was on the subject of guitars, not basses. Apologies. senmen
Great topic! Appreciate! I am also into this new gorgeous bass. And yes, price tag is around 30k. It will be limited to 5 pieces per year and Tom plans to build 20 in total. Cheers Oliver Edited June 21, 2014 by senmen
