spongebob Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Very simply - when you're action is fine at the 12th, but bass has developed buzzing at the lower frets, is it a lefty loosey or a righty tighty? Quote
BassBus Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 When you are facing the trus rod opening, lefty loosy righty tighty. In your case it sounds like there might be a bit of back bow so lefty loosy would introduce a bit more forward bow. Put a capo, or something similar, on the first fret. Then hold the E string onto the fret at the point the neck joins the body, usually around the 17th fret. Use a feeler gauge of about .30mm to check the neck relief. If you like to dig in to your playing then a bit more relief might be needed. Quote
brensabre79 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Lefty loosey would be the answer if everything else is fine. Might want to check the frets are level too though if the buzzing has started recently for no reason. Assuming this is your Geddy (as nobody [s]asking this sort of question[/s] should go anywhere near a 4003 truss rod!) Quote
spongebob Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 It's the 4003 - should have mentioned that, sorry! It had a full set up about 2 months ago, and all was fine then...but it's been gigged a fair bit since. So a slight left turn to both (buzzing affects all 4 strings) should quell this? Quote
spongebob Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 Done it! Seems to have stopped it - will leave to settle and see how it goes. Deffo a lefty - thanks for the info! Quote
brensabre79 Posted June 4, 2014 Posted June 4, 2014 You are a brave soul sir! Glad it's worked out ok Quote
spongebob Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Thanks - it's fine giving a quck tweak, just when knowing which way to go LOL! Quote
