Musicman20
Hi all It doesn't have to be high gain, more the Brit Crunch...i'm thinking more Blur/Kasabian, maybe with the ability to have a little bit of grit all the way to quite fuzzy but still that classic Brit crunch. What type of pedal does this well? My Orange Dual Terror sound great but I'd like a pedal as well to be able to get different textures of gain and overdrive. I don't play anything super heavy plus most my guitar 'needs' are basically nice rhythm crunch, so nothing overly high gain or metal.. Ancient Mariner
You could try A Joyo/Harley Benton British Sound - it's an analogue model of a Marshall amp (clone of a Tech 21 chcracter pedal) and is the most British sounding overdrive that I've ever found. I'm trying to flog one right now - great condition & boxed - £22 shipped. dannybuoy
Darkglass Vintage / Vintage Deluxe is the best thing I've found for adding a guitar amp-like crunch without making the lows sound all farty. http://youtu.be/PDXpw5hEbec
JapanAxe
Crowther Hot Cake will do 'grit' through to 'fuzzy', sounds like it's part of your amp.

Kiwi
The Danelectro FAB tone is one of the crunchiest OD pedals I've ever come across and it goes particularly well with bass if you ever feel like using it for that too. Not sure if its british sounding though.
gadgie
Ditto the Hot Cake. Saying that it depends on your amp. I played one through an AC30....great!!!! I also like my J&H pedal. Dist and OD................or both:) Edited June 13, 2014 by gadgie
Ancient Mariner
The Jekyll & Hyde is a great pedal, but not 'british' by any stretch of the imagination.
Kiwi
Just found out that some guitarists have replaced Marshall Guvnors with the Fabtone so I guess it does do British
Beer of the Bass
If you want some different flavours of gain and crunch than the amp does on its own it might be worth trying out some boost pedals too, either straight clean boosts or Rangemaster type treble boosters. A lot of sounds which come under "classic Brit crunch" were made with a Rangemaster into assorted British flavoured amps. It might or might not be what you're looking for, but it could be an enjoyable avenue to explore.

dlloyd
I have an old Marshall Shredmaster that is great... had it for 24 years or something. For a while they were going for silly prices on ebay because everyone wanted that Radiohead Creep sound, but you can get them for about £50 now. Is it reasonably clear or a little congested sounding (as I've heard in some vids).

It adds a little crunch at low levels which cleans up nicely from the vol knob, or gives really smooth gain when wound right up.
