TimAl Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 (edited) Hello there all, Thought I'd share with you my latest project Bat Bass - Holy Cow! Firstly, apologies to binky_bass who bought my first Bat Bass, but I've refined the idea somewhat & this Bat Bass is based upon a Squier body (bought from Mark_88MPH on this very forum) with a non-branded maple neck with truss road adjustment from the heel. A truly unique bass built by myself as I've always liked the idea of decoupaging an old Batman comic onto a bass, & this one is a genuine 1971 comic. In a nutshell, the process involves cutting out the comic & sticking it all over the body with PVA glue & then spraying clear lacquer over the top to give protection. I also commissioned a unique engraved scratchplate plus a bespoke headstock decal that's also lacquered & looks quite the part! This is NOT a new bass & it was finished by hand so it does have some marks to it, along with the odd crease where the comic has been wrapped & stuck to the edges of the body - which is only natural! - but nothing at all that affects its playability! I'm interested in all comments - good & bad! Cheers Tim Edited June 13, 2014 by icastle Quote
fretmeister Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 (edited) It's lovely and I wouldn't mind having a go at doing something similar. Edited June 13, 2014 by icastle Quote
BigRedX Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Nice... But I was really hoping for the bass version of this: Quote

Weststarx Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I keep coming back to just look at it, I'd have that hanging on my wall as a piece of art I think! Quote
uncle psychosis Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 I love that. My wife is really good at decoupage, I've been half thinking about doing something similar for a while... Quote
molan Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Looks great, similar idea to the Ritter Simpsons and X-Men basses (but substantially cheaper!). Quote
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Nice job;) got me thinking back about 7/8 years ago. There was a headless bat bass made in Germany . Never looked anything like this, but I haven't seen any since. Quote
jezzaboy Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Really cool and well done. Love the headstock detail. Quote
theyellowcar Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Love this even more than I loved the first one. KA-POW! Quote
Graham Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Love it, especially the pickguard and headstock decal Quote
humapuma Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Really nice. I like all the details, and the way the fingerboards looks well worn in as well. Quote
Thunderbird Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014
It looks absolutely bloody awesome, I want one!
You can have this one it is for sale on ebay now Quote
fretmeister Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Where did you get the scratchplate from? I really like the textured look of the bat-logo. Quote
TimAl Posted June 13, 2014 Author Posted June 13, 2014 Thanks all - it's becoming a labour of love & I've got a few ideas for different themes - but suggestions are always welcome! Fretmeister - the scratchplate was CNC routed - I'm a graphic designer by trade so it seemed an obvious thing to do. Funny you ask, because I'm in the process of launching a service offering this very thing - bespoke routed scratchplates - but it's currently still in test stage but I hope to be able to offer them in the next month or so, alongside a very different but perhaps visually more impressive process. Exciting times! Mods - I don't know if the above para is forbidden or not. If it is, I am sorry & please delete. If it's ok, then may I shall SHOUT: EXCITING NEW SCRATCHPLATES COMING SOON! Sorry, couldn't resist! Thanks again all, Tim. Quote
fretmeister Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Nice! Let me know about the 'plates. I might fancy one of them Quote
Bassman Sam Posted June 13, 2014 Posted June 13, 2014 Engraved scratchplates sounds like a winning idea. Good luck with that. Quote
