barkin
I've a Westone Thunder and a Vintage V4, both of which can be picked up 2nd hand for 100-ish quid. I'd happily take either to a gig as my only bass.
molan
If you're looking for something to practice on then is be tempted to get something with a neck profile as close as possible to your main 4003. Most P style basses are going to feel very different to the Ricky. I'd be tempted to look out for an Ibanez or Yamaha with a skinny neck. RickyV
Another shout for the Yamaha RBX's. I picked up an RBX270J (usual P/J pup configuration) for small money on ebay. Great variety of tone and a lovely slim and fast neck.
Twincam
Harley Benton jazz basses great value..worth checking out.
Very true the Harley Benton vintage models are wilkinson pickups and hardware, decent solid ash body, and very well made in fact if they had a different shape headstock and squier logo on them they would cost over £300. Nice block and bound neck too. Oh and even come with good quality d'addario strings. All for 110 delivered with German efficiency lol. Really are the best value bass out there in my view. Better built than the squier vintage modified mustang bass i had before it!. The yamaha rbx series in my view the lower end models have very weak pickups. But are quality made instruments. But the bottom end one will cost double the Harley benton vintage jazz. Theres also the Harley Benton vintage p bass looks gorgeous and is well under 100 pound again with wilkinson hardware etc
