£170

Early to mid-nineties Tanglewood Bassmaster Funk. Maple body and neck, four strings, active pickups, V-V-T controls.

There's a whole thread about these basses here: http://basschat.co.u..._hl__bassmaster

Here's there original catalogue, showing the bass in question in the bottom right corner: http://basschat.co.u...ttach_id=108469

Almost an exact copy of a Spector, even in terms of feel and sound (feels and sounds a lot like a euro rebop i tried in a shop recently). Very hot pickups, powerful mids and a prominent tone in the mix. A bass that can be heard!

Some very minor wear and tear. Most notably, a small chip on the neck close to the fretboard (see picture). Never felt it was there when playing it.

£170, including shipping from Edinburgh.

Interested in part exchanging this for a cheap EUB.

Recently watched a support band playing at The Finsbury in London where the singer was rocking a stunning Spector; I asked him after the show what one it was because it had an awesome tone; 'Actually, it's a Tanglewood Bassmaster Funk' he said. Colour me surprised. If I wasn't selling basses to raise funds myself, I'd buy this in an instant - you are talking a whole LOT of bang for your buck - at £170 you can't possibly go wrong!

Thanks chuck, I agree entirely. Last time I was trying to sell it I ended up keeping it after playing it a bit at home...

It's market rules, and lack of awareness of the quality of the bass. I am constantly pegged back by an ad on gumtree selling his beat up one for £90 :)

I had a completely unheard of Tanglewood which I ended up selling to Carlos in Spain and I've regretted it ever since. I tried to buy it back but it's somewhere else in Europe now, but that sold for around £350 (IIRC) and was probably worth triple that in terms of materials and build quality; certainly stood up to any Warwicks, Spectors or other mid/mid-high range basses I've tried. It's been upgraded with better electronics since and now it sounds utterly amazing. One day, it will be mine again ;) GLWTS!
