andydye
Playing our own blend of Americana, rock and country we had our first gig together last night (Friday the 13th June) and we went down rather well On second, the only band of the three to get clamorous applause and a demand for an encore from the promoter...we took this to be a good sign Edited June 18, 2014 by andydye
andydye
just had our second gig, at the Cross Scythes pub on Derbyshire Lane (Sheffield), as part of an 'acoustic' festival they were puting on, we may not have been terribly acoustic but we went down very well indeed and the manager/landlord/organiser was rather gushing in his praise and demanded that we come and play on one of his regular music nights...again we thought this a good sign Edited August 26, 2014 by andydye
andydye
Third gig down and things are getting weird!! http://basschat.co.u...__fromsearch__1 We've been rebooked (again) and this time to headline on a saturday night over two well established local bands used to headlining their own shows in decent sized venues whose names start with "o2 something or other"...as the Wildhearts once sang, there's "something weird going on in my head"!! Great night though and we filled the place nicely for our set whereas the other two acts good as they were didn't really bring anyone...mebbe that's the answer? Your Soundcloud stuff is very enjoyable, interesting songs, a lovely dynamic sound and everyone has their own space 'in the mix' (imho). If you sound like that in pubs it's no wonder you're going down well!

We've all played in other bands for years (mostly covers, abba tribute that sort of thing ) but we've not been together as a band playing our own stuff for even a year yet and we're being pushed up the bill ahead of etablished local bands after 3 gigs, we're kind of sitting here thinking, wtf is going on here! we've been told by a mate that he thought the soundcloud stuff was ok, mebbe not his sort of thing but when he came to see us live he was completely blown away and he's now a rabid fan, that can't be bad can it It's making us think we need to do some proper recording rather than just doing basic demos from our rehearsal space... andydye
well, that was eventful to say the least! we were added to the bill somewhat last minute to make up the numbers as a favour to the promoter and upon arrival...BOTH the other bands had jibbed! cancelled! welched!! 'lil feckers!! So there we were at the venue with the soundman (who was VERY pleased to see us!) but with no drums as one of the other bands was to have provided them, no-one else on the bill for the evening...and no-one in the bar AT ALL (apart form the bar staff). did we pull the whole thing? did we chuff! Our drummer (normally has his drums in the car but took them out this time!) set off home to fetch his drums (a 45 min drive each way!) while we set about ringing round anyone we knew who had an acoustic guitar and could do a 30min set to start the evening off...after a good few messages and phone calls we managed to drag a good friend away from a family meal to come and open up for us - job one ticked off! We then texted everyone we knew to get them to come down to an intimate evening with the Fargo Railroad Co and ended up with a good few in there which pleased the bar staff no end! I've started taking a pic of the crowd during one of the songs that has a long gap before the rest of the band come in (it's called The Well and it's on our soundcloud), very atmospheric civil war epic type thing with a killer phaser part on the guitar Compared to an empty bar this is a huge improvement and they were all listening which is awesome! slightly gratuitous set-list on '78 p-bass pic ...in short we saved the evening, hauled the promoter's ass out of the fire (he wasn't allowed to be there due to being barred from the bar, not a clue what he'd done!) and the bar's manager was well into both the music and our bar filling abilities so he took a couple of fliers! We also had another local promoter there with us for the evening (one we want to impress as he does nicer shows!) and despite the fubar start to the evening he hung around until the end with us and had a good time, complimenting us on our set an dlooking forward to our show for him in November so all ended way better than it started!! andydye
did a great gig at The Cremorne a few weeks back but sadly nno pics from that one so 'obviously' it never happened we played at Shakespeares this last weekend for a new promoter, one we wanted to impress and despite our lead singer having vitrually no voice we bulled through and sounded frickin badass I believe, 'embarassingly excellent' was an overheard comment
