Annoying Twit
Is this really worth £599? My spidey sense is saying no. Bassassin
Probably a bit ambitious but it depends - this sort of stuff can be worth a few quid to the right collector. I was highly surprised (pleasantly!) when I sold a fairly scruffy '62 Watkins Rapier 33 guitar for £300-ish. Particularly considering I only paid £6 for it... Jon. Annoying Twit
Erm, Jon. You called someone a "cheeky git" because they bought something from you for £64, and then listed it for £150 Concerning the Baldwin, I don't personally know what are actually collector's items, and which are firewood put on ebay or gumtree for high prices with loads of superlatives and hyperbole. My default position is, if it isn't a top brand, it probably tends toward the firewood side of the equation.
Bassassin
[quote name='Annoying Twit' timestamp='1402780852' post='2476807'] Erm, Jon. I listed the Watkins at 99p - bidding wars are great, ain't they! And in fairness I did do a lot of very careful cleaning and fettling to make it as nice as possible - I think it had had mice living in it when I got it... J. Beer of the Bass
A shop in Edinburgh has a left-handed Baldwin advertised at £1099. Mind you, it's been there a little while so I'm not certain if that's a value the market will bear or if they're being somewhat optimistic. Bassassin
Live Music tends to be somewhat overpriced in general - they currently have a Sunn Mustang (90s Indian-made licensed P copy) for £120 and an 80s Westone Spectrum for £250. Sold privately these would be closer to half those prices & I'd apply similar logic to their Baldwin. J.

ash
There's a big difference value wise between a Burns and a Baldwin - and indeed a UK built Baldwin and an Italian built Baldwin. When Baldwin bought the Burns brand out guitars were built in the UK until the mid/later 60's then switched production to Italy. These instruments don't really justify high price tags as they were more budget conscious products and lack collector and player appeal. I owned a couple of Baldwin semis picked up cheaply and they were of a similar quality to the Vox, Eko and Shaftesbury products of the same era ( possibly some parts were made in the same factory ). Decent enough guitars with 'niche' appeal but not a patch on instruments like the UK made Burns Bison or even the more recent Burns basses from the Far East.
