spinynorman Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 I've got a pre-2004 Rebop 5, which doesn't have the fancy finish, just a plain slab of alder. The neck is great but I didn't get on with the Tonepump pre-amp, so I replaced it with an Aquilar OBP-1. It is a lovely bass to play, but it does come across in look and sound as quite aggressive, so if you're not in that kind of band (which actually I'm not) it mightn't be the right choice. Quote

I thought I heard someone calling.... Best value for money must go to the Spector EuroLX range. The build quality is up there with the US models, hardware is heavy duty, gold plated etc and active pickups are EMG. The Tonepump preamp takes some taming but if you know what you're doing it's a sinch! The tone is to die for.... plenty of mid punch with a solid fundamental and sparkling highs. niceguyhomer Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Did a gig with my new to me Rebop 5 yesterday - what a fantastic bass. Growly, powerful and punchy as hell. I used to own a particularly nice Euro 5 and foolishly sold it because at the time, I couldn't do it justice with my sh*tty technique. I've had a few lessons since then and now I'm comfortable on 5 strings - I spent most of the gig kicking myself for selling it. Quote

I play a blend of rock and metal (Alice in Chains, Pantera, Tool, etc.) and it adapted wonderfully to those styles, with great tonal control. A few too many pots for me, but there's no doubt that they could produce a tone for any style in the right hands, with some tweaking. Not to mention, it's dead sexy, has good weight balance, comes in several finishes, and feels great in the hands. A great package for only 300 quid. Hope this helps! Quote

Machines Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Yeah they've had it a while.. the Sandberg CNC machine had a mine of it's own and produced about 10 of them. Rather than waste it... they made it a promo bass ! Plays well surprisingly but playing octaves are a pain . It was really quiet (in terms of people) when I was there, more like a Monday morning than Saturday afternoon ! Was it Big Dave you spoke to ? Looks a bit like this... with a goatee: Quote
