JuliusGroove
Okay so I've got my board set up as: DI/PRE-AMP > Tuner > Octaver > Envelope > Fuzz Where would you suggest to put the compressor? Also any issues with the above? Cheers!
thisnameistaken
Do you have a suitable drawer or cupboard?
JuliusGroove
I may have a spare room in my sock drawer..
aLxbass
Personally i would go Tuner > DI/PRE-AMP > Compressor > Octaver > Envelope > Fuzz I always have my tuner first so it gets the best signal from my bass and has nothing in between to interfere. then the rest is really just up to you. depends if your going to want to compress your fuzz etc. but honestly, i don't use a compressor. So i would say the sock drawer
Japhet
I'd put the envelope filter before the compressor since it works off the dynamics of the note played. I'd have the tuner first in the chain. Presumably you want the DI to have all of the effects fed into it so have it last. Fuzz and octave after the compressor. (Sits back and waits to be corrected )
JuliusGroove
I ended up putting the compressor last in the chain under the logic that I could use it to shape the tone after fuzz/envelope has screwed around with it. It didn't even cross my mind that having the Pre-amp first would mean if I used it as a DI it wouldnt send my effects to the front desk? I have a DI on my amp anyway.. Suppose I'll just use it there and swap if need be later
Old_Ben
Depending on what you use the compressor for will depend on where you should place it. But it all comes down to personal taste, as long as it sounds good to you keep it where you feel it works best!
Panamonte
I'd put the envelope filter before the compressor since it works off the dynamics of the note played. I'd have the tuner first in the chain.
Same reason I put my compressor post envelope - envelope responds to amplitude changes in bass output, compressor smooths peaks from envelope. But ultimately this :
as long as it sounds good to you keep it where you feel it works best! cheddatom
I would have thought the pre-amp would go best at the end of the chain, try it!
elephantgrey
Putting a compressor before an envelope could be a great way of controlling the shape of the envelope.
