acidbass
I made some sound clips. (Disclaimer: I'm just a dabbler when it comes to home recording)
Michael - lovely sounds - am I right in saying that the Bridge pickup and Neck pickup are noted the wrong way around? (Disclaimer: I'm just a dabbler when it comes to home recording)
Lovely looking and sounding bass, and great playing - funky, low slung and cool as f**k. Just wondering … For clip 2, the title says "Neck pickup" but to me the sound is 100% classic Jazz bridge pup, and vice versa for clip 3 - i.e. the text says "bridge" but the sound is totally neck. Or maybe I just need to get my ears syringed?! Anyway, great stuff, and many thanks for posting.

I'll re-do the clip and update it later. :-)

wateroftyne
I've just spent a couple of hours playing it tonight. It sounds great but I noticed that the output was incredibly low compared to my P's, and I couldn't figure out why... until I put flats on it, and BOOM! My God, what a glorious noise. Fat growl! I dunno what kind of rounds it had on it, bit there can't be much metal in 'em. This bass is so well put together. If I can sweet-talk Mrs. WoT I can see myself keeping this AND getting a maple-neck P. It's and absolute monster, and it feels like an old friend already. I've re-made the video with an additional three clips with the flats on. Sorry it's repetitive. I have to bring attention to the slide around 4m12s. And that's with flats on it.

Simon.
Really love the tone with the flats on and both pickups full on. Very sweet. Wish I was played enough these days to justify getting one of these!

What sort of tension are the JOs, I love flats but I like low-medium tension like Status Hotwires, are the JOs similar?

The tension of the JO's? I'll have to cop out and say 'medium'. Not like TIs... comparable to La Bella FLs.
Dingus
Very well-executed relic job. Would have me fooled if I was a punter watching you play. Nice playing on the sound samples, too. Sounds just like a Jazz Bass should. I wonder how this chap and similar builders get away with using the Fender logo on the headstock, though? Presumably it's because the neck is an official Fender-licensed part?

Musicman20
WOT - How would you compare it to a vintage Fender? I realise they are probably nowhere near as expensive but a nice substitute to get the feel/look/tone but without the high pricetag.
wateroftyne
Hey Gareth I can't compare it to a real '63 J 'cos I've never played one for any great length, but: Swapping between it and my early 70s P's, and from memory my (now sold) early 70s J's, nothing about it feels 'repro'. It just nails the warm, lived-in vintage vibe perfectly. I've been holding out for an early 70s maple-board P, but I'm 100% convinced something from Limelight will quench the GAS, at my exact spec, at a fraction of the price. wateroftyne
That reminds me, I posted a link to this bass on the Classic and Cool website earlier. Only, on closer inspection, it isn't this bass. The relic'ing is different. I'll email Mark and ask him for some info about it.

Fraction of the price, Marks attention to detail and ability and taste is excellent from what I've seen/heard but most importantly, it's something I can take out without having a heart attack every time someone looks at it! Can't wait for mine to turn up now I've seen yours and heard the excellent sound samples.
Musicman20
I expect their order book to grow considerably now! I've always wanted a Pino P bass with P bass neck, but only very minor wear (just enough to make it look like a bass that's been used but never really abused). FIesta Red/Tort/Dark Rosewood. Yum. Once I've sorted my (6 string) guitar situation out I might take a look at these.
