Hobbayne
I,m not to sure what this article is trying to explain. I,m even more befuddled after reading it! CamdenRob
In many cases, the bassist in a rock band can be forgotten by fans or shunned by the other members, especially if bass is the only instrument they regularly play.... Tis the bass players lot.....
KevB
If it means I have to buy a red 5 stringed bass then I'm afraid I'm probably screwed... though in truth there's a fair bit of sensible (if fairly obvious) good advice in there too. CamdenRob
I've never been on wikihow before, there are loads of comical threads about starting a band. My favourite so far is from the "How to be in a cool band" thread 8) If you are getting booed then finish the song and get off stage. Don't continue if no-one's buying it.
toneknob
"When live, play at the high end of the neck on the heavier strings, unless you're using a compressor, this will be noticeably louder, and lean back while you're at it" I need to work on my leaning back. discreet
Wow, I thought the fact that I look radically different from the other members of the band was a disadvantage - but it turns out that it's an asset that will help get me noticed and I'll be fun to watch!! That is if you think watching fat people is fun, of course. Edited June 16, 2014 by discreet

CamdenRob
Last one I promise... NEVER let the band tell you bass is easier than guitar or something. If you are a smart bassist, argue with them until they are convinced.
Weststarx
That was hilarious... It may as well have said... ''If you want to play bass, don't be a bitch about it''
Happy Jack
Depressingly po-faced ... I was hoping for something much more tongue-in-cheek. There were some nice barbs: "... learn to play a secondary instrument like keyboards or guitar ..." But I suspect that was down to the author's illiteracy, and she meant "second" rather than "secondary".
seashell
I tried a bit of leaning back once. Unfortunately it was captured on camera and it made me look as though I had a double chin (perish the thought!). So I won't be doing that again. I'm practising hunching over now instead. skankdelvar
Buried among the clichés are some tips we might all profitably embrace: * Do not hold any anger toward the other band members for always holding the spotlight * Have a personality ... be fun to watch * When songwriting, don't go to ridiculous lengths to give yourself a technically complicated part * A generous amount of bass solo time is anything above five seconds of a song
Number6
All this leaning and hunching.....isn't good for your back you know. I prefer venues that have mobility access ramps nowadays.....that way the band can wheel me in and out on a trolley.

Lozz196
I like the "play higher notes further up on the thicker strings" part. I always do that, I think there`s a D & G on my bass only because my OCD would rebel at a 4 string only having 2 strings on it.

Bilbo
My own thoughts are, if you need to read an article on how to play bass in a band, you probably shouldn't play bass in a band.
