I have one of these myself, an original blue one with the RAM upgrade and an internal hard drive, but the standard Akai OS v2.11. I'm going to hang on to mine for a while, since I think this is a future classic. It's not just for hip-hop: it makes a very good sampling drum machine for more conventional applications, and it has enough power, memory, and sample recording quality for complete songs with lots of long samples (e.g. whole bass parts, not just notes). I haven't used it live yet, but I think it will come in handy even if I'm working with a drummer, since it can be triggered or started/stopped by footpedals.
