Old Man Riva
In true hipster fashion, “I liked them until they became popular!”, but still… I was listening to A Northern Soul the other day, really just to revisit the final two tracks of the album, and of course I then ended up listening to the whole thing, which reminded of how good they were and how much I like the album. This is from the album. I’ve always liked Simon Jones’ bass lines/sound, but I think Nick McCabe is wonderful on this. He was such a huge part of the band’s sound. For me, he’s vastly underrated as a guitarist and a composer…
NancyJohnson
I'm reading an essay collection about Power Pop, there's a ton of bands that I know the names of, but don't really know about. I've just put together a playlist for Badfinger. Let's see how this goes.

Baloney Balderdash
When the black clouds marched across the sky A mother sat awake and a child slept. And an angel´s voice sang in the night´s silence the praise of all the worlds. And the young mother heard an echo Most deeply within her the night´s silent praise: O how the world grew out to every latitude While the little one slept. The spaceships are lying, only the flags are plying, and it's the 1970s not the '1917'. Sorry, I'm picky about such things...
Nail Soup
BBC are currently showing the drama "The Pursuit of Love"... based on the novel by Nancy Mitford. The music was pretty cool, so have downloaded the soundtrack podcast from BBC sounds, and it's very good mix: Here's the link BBC Radio Mixes - TV Soundtracks, The Pursuit of Love, Big tunes from our favourite new show - The Pursuit of Love And here's the track list:
