Blues rock, largely - trawling the vaults for suitable material for my blues band.  Specifically, this last week or so being confined to barracks with shingles, Johnny Winter.  I never really listened to much of his output back in the day and am currently enjoying catch-up.

This is about to enter our set :)

Leprous are fantastic, and Baard Kolstad is excellent!!

I just had a listen!  I think this would scare our chosen audience to death 😁  Not quite Cream or Jeff Healey, really.

Adagio for Strings - Samuel Barber, soothing after the rush of the previous few days.

Time -Hans Zimmer

I'm in a contemplative frame of mind today

I love Barber's Adagio for Strings. Strangely, my introduction to it was via a computer game called Homeworld where it was used as the background music for the game. The game also featured a theme song called The Ladder which was written and performed by Yes - and the game itself was pretty good as well.

Not heard any music in a week as mrs Spiders and the offspring are'nt partial to  electronica. Most of my listening is during car journeys to work and back and sad to say I don't have a shed to escape to 😢. I've invented a reason to go to the recycling depot this morning so I'll try and squeeze in a bit of Future Sound of London

One of my daughters went to see White Lies in London recently and she's been telling me she's been listening to them a lot. Don't bother - I've listened to a few albums (not the latest 2 - I didn't get that far) - absolute tosh.

I’m very much enjoying Lana Del Rey’s album ‘Norman flipping Rockwell!’ which I sought out on the basis of it’s positive reviews in all the end-of-year charts. I’m rather taken by the woozy, torch song drama of it all, although like most albums these days it would benefit from being 15 minutes shorter.

(I’m intrigued to see how the profanity filter amends the somewhat clumsy album title...)

I was once told that White Lies’ debut album went to number one with the smallest ever weekly sales for a number one album. I don’t know the specifics.

I want to hear this for the same reason - I've liked listening to some of her music but only for short periods of time - it's strange and intense.

Ha ha. I remember John Peel introducing a Slipknot track saying “It’s amazing what teenagers mistake for disturbing these days”.

A few tracks were actually ok , but it was a tad heavy for me 😄

I like some ridiculously heavy music but less and less frequently these days and nothing (imho) beats Reign in Blood anyway, and before anyone says ‘That’s not the heaviest’, I agree, it’s just class.
