alyctes Posted January 4, 2022 Posted January 4, 2022 I ran across this by accident. (That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.) The guitarists are excessive. The rest of it, bonkers, probably in a good way. 3 1 Quote
cetera Posted January 5, 2022 Posted January 5, 2022 I've been listening to the Whitesnake 1978-1982 CD boxset 'Little Box O Snakes'. Always appreciated Neil Murray's playing but had never realised quite how much he sounds like Andy Fraser! That staccato, farty, low mid pumping tone is quite something.... 2 Quote

My tastes are a little niche and from the heavier end of the metal/hardcore spectrum - if post-rock/hardcore, mathcore, black metal or grindcore are your bag then you'd probably recognise the bands I'm listing, otherwise they will probably be completely unheard of Speaking of which, yesterday was the last day of my holiday and I listened to the below - I've tried to give some description of what they sound like Lingua Ignota - Sinner Get Ready (hard to categorise, but think Diamanda Galas dealing with an abusive relationship through the medium of Catholicism and American folk music. It's actually a brilliant record even if it sounds conceptually odd) The Dillinger Escape Plan - Ire Works (mathcore - chaotic, abrasive hardcore/punk in complex time signatures) The Dillinger Escape Plan - Option Paralysis Bossk - Audio Noir (post-metal which is exemplified by (often instrumental), music which slowly builds to crescendo with lots of textures, often quite cinematic. Bossk though are like that, but with big, fun, awesome riffs) Quote

Baloney Balderdash Posted January 7, 2022 Posted January 7, 2022 (edited) The absolutely phenomenal "Sea Song" by Robert Wyatt, from his 1974 solo album "Rock Bottom" : You look different every time you come From the foam-crested brine Your skin shining softly in the moonlight Partly fish, partly porpoise, Partly baby sperm whale Am I yours? Are you mine to play with? Joking apart - when you're drunk you're terrific When you're drunk I like you mostly Late at night you're quite alright But I can't understand the different you in the morning When it's time to play At being human for a while, Please smile! You'll be different in the spring, I know You're a seasonal beast Like the starfish that drift in with the tide So until your blood runs to meet the next full moon You're madness fits in nicely with my own Your lunacy fits neatly with my own, My very own We're not alone Edited January 7, 2022 by Baloney Balderdash 2 Quote
