Geek99
I have a precision body with fairly drab sunburst and shiny nitro lacquer. Does anyone have tips for toning down the shininess of the laquer in the manner of an older bass ?
TheGreek
Iron wire?? (essentially a brillo pad) No experience in this but it should have the desired effect.. Edited June 26, 2014 by TheGreek
Geek99
Doesn't it need to be quite fine ?
Roland Rock
Definitely fine, 0000 would do the job http://www.axminster.co.uk/liberon-steel-wool
Geek99
I just tried one of those green pan scourers (not the one i used for the last three weeks obviously) and it seems to be quite good at taking plates down a step or two Edited June 26, 2014 by Geek99
Roger2611
I have used 2000 grit wet and dry (used wet with a bit of washing up liquid in to make it even less abrasive) on a rather too shiny Les Paul, it takes the shine off nicely and would polish back up to a deep glossy shine if needed
Billy Apple
This.. http://www.rustins.eu/Details.asp?ProductID=528 Mind you, it will polish back up again any place you rub whilst playing
jezzaboy
I used a green scourer pad and some colour restore, similar to T cut, and it took that horrible shiny look off of a Squier Jazz body. Only took about 20 mins and some elbow grease.
Billy Apple
FYI.. Those green scourers (Scotch Brite Pads and Brillo's) are much rougher than fine steel wool. Depends on what you want, I'd start with the fine and go heavier if need be.
Billy Apple
... Plus nitro can be quite thin, so watch you don't go through.
