I've just installed an Xtender onto my Clover (GB7 style tuners)very pleased with it... except that it won't drop to a low C! It goes 90% of the way there and can't get any lower, even more frustrating it stops just a fraction sharp of a low C.

Does anyone know if there is a way to extend those extra 10cents to low C?

Are you dropping the low string from E standard all the way to C?

If so that's a big drop - try tuning to D standard and drop to C from there.

If it's so tantalisingly close, possibly a slightly lighter or heavier string might just do the trick due to different stretch rates. It'll be down to experimentation.. let the fun commence!

The screw is unscrewed as far as it will go (none left protruding) so a shorter screw won't help unfortunately. Might have to be a new string, which is a bugger because I use flats and I can't recall anywhere selling individual strings.

We do! :) We sell Picato, and I currently have both .100 and .105 here; others are available to special order.

If upping your string gauge doesn't get you there you could try filing the stop back a bit; if you go too far you can always bring the screw back into play.

If Hubrad can't help you, I've always used www.stringsdirect.co.uk for my strings, because I like a heavier B string than you normally get in 5 string sets, so I buy 4 string sets and individual B strings.

I usually keep 4 string sets and separate low and high strings anyway, rather than preset 5 or 6-string sets, as I experimented quite a bit myself in the old days.. at one point I was using 40-100 with a 105 low B trying to balance tones on a particular bass!
