Canadian Rock

I was just reading the Allanah Myles thread and it occured to me how much I have always loved so much of the Rock music that come out of Canada; Rush, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush, Max Webster, Kim Mitchell, Bachman–Turner Overdrive, Alanis Morrissette, Avril Lavigne, Bruce Cockburn, April Wine, Pat Travers, FM, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Bryan Adams.... not the sort of stuff I listen to any more but the quality was always great.

Go Canada!

Loads of stuff in there that i used to listen to. Some nice reminders of better times (musically of course :D )

Just so i haven't lost my marbles !

Was Kim Mitchell not Max Webster or with them. I'm sure it was them that supported Rush on Hemispheres or Farewell tour ??

all good tho.

Max Webster & Rush were very closely connected - remember this?

Both bands set up together in the studio & knocked this out live - absolutely immense!

Max Webster were fantastic. Overlooked and underrated. Check out "A Million Vacations" or "High Class In Borrowed Shoes"...stunning albums.

Another Canada fan here!

Great country, lovely people, including loads of beautiful women.Just a bit too much wilderness and wildlife for my tastes, AND MUCH, MUCH TOO COLD but that can't be helped I suppose. An eminently sensible society ( except for Quebec) , and all the more remarkable considering their close proximity to the U.S.A.

I'm not surprised that there are so many bands that have come out of Canada because, simlilar to Australia, it is very much a live music culture with loads of bars and clubs for bands to play, so the law of averages dictates that some will go on to bigger things.

I highly recommend these guys, caught them on their double headline tour with Scorpion Child (also awesome!) a month or so ago - they smashed it!

He also rocks a stunning F Bass!

Great track!

I can vividly remember hearing that song for the first time when Tommy Vance played it on the Friday Rock Show. That must have been around 1980. That's when rock music was rock music! None of this long shorts and goatee beards nonsense that you get nowadays. It was long, shaggy permed hair , satin bomber jackets and great songs like that. I'm getting a bit emotional now.

Kim Mitchell was the guitarist and singer with Max Webster but he has had a solo career post MW. Check out Lemon Wedge from the cd 'Itch'. There is a transcription of the bass part here:

Max Webster were on the TOTP's repeats from 1979 a few weeks back, making their one and only appearance. A mate of mine is a fan of both MW and KM solo. Underrated artist. I have one or two MW albums in the collection and best of comps of both MW and KM. Can't remember if Lemon Wedge is on it though, not played it for a while. Some fo the MW stuff sounds quite Zappa influenced to me.

Nice to see OLP getting a mention on this thread! Used to love them back in my student days... (daze) along with I Mother Earth.

Had the pleasure of sharing a stage with these Canadians at the Kilkenny festival a few years back. Really great guitar player:
