Whenever i use my schroeder at volume i find messing with the EQ gets rid of some of that compression your talking about, i mean seriously messing. I sold mine ONLY to get my powersoft 1u amp! The amp has loads of really useful features, especially a variable active cross over on each channel, for tuning out those unhelpful sub frequencies that most cabinets can't produce anyway!
