Happy Jack Posted July 8, 2014 Posted July 8, 2014 (edited) For various reasons I now need to sell a few basses. This is a concept that I am struggling with, since normally I am buying rather than selling, and of course I don’t really want to sell anything at all. Hmmmm. How to decide what goes and what stays? Easy. Ask the market. I’m listing eight basses, none of which I actually want to sell. Whatever goes first will go, and once I have raised the necessary dosh I will de-list the rest. At the risk of stating the blindingly obvious, I’m trying to raise money rather than trade basses. I’m also well aware that money’s too tight to mention (damn! I mentioned it) so I won’t be offended by offers. The basses are available to try and/or collect at my studio in Acton W3. I have no problem with posting them, but I always think it makes far more sense (along with being far more sociable) to come and try before you buy. ************************* FENDER Precision (1984) Unusual bass, moved away from stock by the addition of an unknown after-market ’51 pickup mounted in what should be the bridge position on a P/J. The pole-pieces don’t line up with the strings, the vibe is odd, and it looks like it should sound dreadful. Actually, it really sings and the weird ’51 brings a new, aggressive dimension to the sound while still being very much a Precision. Sounds superb with a pick. Controls are V/V/T. One ding on the lower horn, but otherwise a very attractive bass. Weighs about 9lbs. £750 http://s1128.photobu...01984%20CURRENT Edited August 9, 2014 by Happy Jack

Happy Jack Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 No, not a custom but a rather modified original standard bass. Whoever did the original mods wasn't very good at it and it needed a fair bit of tidying up, but it's now a great playing bass. Having had any potential 'vintage bass' value destroyed by the mods, it's also a great workhorse bass which will accept further mods (like the SD Quarter Pounders I've just installed) without needing to question my sanity.
