High profile festival needs a band for this Saturday - now sorted, thanks

Recommended Posts

I have received a request for urgent help from one of my contacts, Barry Hillier of http://spottedcowent...ments.webs.com/ Since it's so urgent, I'm posting it here as opposed to under Gigs (but I'll put a link there too).
High profile Gig for a Covers Band at a major festival this weekend in Gloucestershire, Outdoor stage. 8pm Saturday 12th July. Band PA's required.

If you can help, please contact him directly and mention Basschat and/or Silvia as your source.

Thanks!

I see its sorted now so that's good but it had that ring of "its not a payer but you will get lots of gigs off it, oh yes can we use your pa for the tombola prize draw announcements, can you be here at 11am to set up and stay until 3am because we are not allowed vehicle movement until the punters have gone" :D

Looks like they've expanded the event into an all-day festival thing, complete with music tent.

I'd have loved to play this gig (looks a lot like the Ealing Beer Festival we played last week, which was a complete hoot) but unfortunately our front man was unavailable for the Saturday.

I'm not trying to get your back up Silvia and my earlier posts were in jest but as I said to happy Jack via pm never have I done one of these gigs where the band provide the pa, I know it's sorted so hopefully we will find out more, maybe the band were hiring the pa for the venue as an extra service? Still massively odd in my experience of this type of :)

Ive told the boys thats it for freebies for the next couple of years, we've too many repairs needed, too much gear to upgrade and its costing so much with rehersal hire and fuel costs thats its all got to be paid gravy for a while...any "festival" that need your PA, well..... :o

Does anyone know how this gig went down in the end? I tried to google it and got no info on bands, listings or anything at all :)

I am hoping it was better than my last one, you can see why I am now forever sceptical can't you?

I presume other members here had a similar feeling as there were lots of views and not one reply other than mine to what looks now to be a great gig, I'd like to hear jtuk's thoughts :D

Sure...
Not talking about this specific event but yes, P.A, stage, lights, power supply and event management/security all need to be taken care of.
That is before you get to a fee. Too many festivals round here feature extensive line-ups and then crow on about how cheap the beers
and food is etc etc compared to other events ... and the simple answer is they don't pay for bands so that is probably a cost of £3-5k plus that they don't have to find.
The word 'charity' tends to crop up here but even most festivals will produce a charity donation. My main beef about charity is the only ones doing it for free is the bands... and even that has a place, but compare like for like. A charity event does not have the same costs
as others, so therefore they tend not to be so good....
Not saying they aren't worth doing but we supply a rider to the festival.. and we have helped one or two of them to progress to be large enough -they don't want to get much bigger altho I think the easiliy could. Only in the sense that we played there 1st and they asked us for advice, tho...and since we knew it as a place that like to do events that THEY would want to go to... we thought they'd be open to suggestions.
To their credit, they didn't blink... they went for it.
That, to me, is a major Music festival of that ilk....
After that, you are getting into Brewery sponsored Town events with 4 main town st stages... and 20,000-30,000 thru the weekend.
