magee
Hello, I was hoping you guys could help me. The important thing to know here is that I am scared of amps, and dozy. The word 'ohm' makes me tremble, talk of impedance give me the yips. I have always spent my loot on instruments not amps since I rarely gig with my own set up, so I still have the Peavey TNT 130 I had as a mere child. Last night I carelessly went out and bought a Hartke HA2000 head from a rehearsal studio that was selling them off cause I thought: when else am I going to get a head with a valve in it for £80? I don't have a cab, though, and I'm wondering can I plug my head into my Peavey? I've had a look at the circuit diagrams and what I'm thinking of doing is taking the effects send out [the head has no DI] and putting it into the 'power amp in' section of the Peavey. The effects send is post-eq and preamp so I'll get the tone, but I think it's before the power amp section of the Hartke. From what I can make out on the Peavey the 'power amp in' jack just takes a signal and sends it to the power amp and speaker. The Hartke HA2000 manual is here: http://www.samsontech.com/products/related...3500_manual.pdf The Peavey TNT 130 manual is here: http://www.peavey.com/media/pdf/manuals/80370367.pdf So my question is: am I about to blow up the Peavey? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matthew
6stringbassist
I think so, basically your just plugging the preamp stage of the Hartke in to the power amp stage of the combo.
bass_ferret
To quote Alex Clabers first law: You can use any power ouput amp with any power handling cab. If any of these combinations makes bad sounds then turn down and/or stop cranking the bass EQ excessively or damage may occur. All you are doing is effectively swapping pre-amps so should be fine. Just make sure the Hartke can run with an open power amp. Most amps can but I would want to be sure. bennifer
Most valve amps get very unhappy if they have nothing plugged into their speaker output. I'd look at plugging the speaker output of the Hartke into the speaker of the combo - you might have to solder up a jack plug to that speaker yourself to do it. Not exactly remotely difficult though! MythSte
I believe thats only Fully tubed heads, a tube pre should be fine with no load, so you dont need to worry about that.

Tube POWER amps need to see a load. In theory most solid state power amps should be OK open circuit, but as ferret said, RTM just to be sure.
