tom skool
I love the look of the 51 precision but Im not sure I'd be happy with that tiny single coil pup. I've seen some with the modern type split coil but why does no one put a proper humbucker in that position rather than the muddy mudbucker neck position? tom skool
oh yeah, the cabronita. Is that a proper humbucker then the fidelitron?
Billy Apple
It's not a fidelitron, it's a TV Jones Thunderblade. Yes a proper humbucker with very high output.

tom skool
yeah I'm curious now too

tom skool
well I'm thinking of building anyway. Hows the sound? does it compare to a p bass perhaps? Edited July 11, 2014 by tom skool
DarkHeart
Do you mean like this? I built this up last year, it originally had a stacked pot for both coils but i replaced it with a single volume as i found i always had both coils up full. It sounds great and would probably be even better with a better pup but thats for another day. AttitudeCastle
Ou7shined on here loves humbuckers in the P coil position. Not heard from Rich in a while so can't say he'll be along any time soon, but he's some beauts posted around here like that!
tom skool
Yes DarkHeart I do mean like that. That looks lovely, good job! Although I think I'd personally prefer a covered pup but that's me. I see you have a standard head stock rather than the tele shape but still have the neck squared off at the body in true tele style. That must have been custom made right? Thanks for all the input everyone. I'd still like to get more idea of how the sound compares if I can cheers
DarkHeart
Everything was sourced from ebay for that build, the neck travelled from Hong Kong if my memory serves me right and its wide but shallow and comfortable theres every possibility it will be up for sale in the near future if a few of the irons i have in fires come to fruition. Grangur
Tom Skool, if you mean covered poles, Kent Armstrong do a great humbucker. Mine in a Wishbass gives a great tone. At £50 they're amazing value too.
tommorichards
Not too sure on the sound, but this one popped up on ebay a few weeks back, and it looks amazing. Seemed to use an old gibson mudbucker, 30Kish output. [/quote] Just a note on the original pickup if it helps....I have a Custom Shop '55 Precision with a stacked version of the pickup, sounds absolutely huge, especially with heavy flats. It knocked the stuffing out of my old 1966 Precision Bass so that went to the market...
