umcoo
Hi all, I've slowly been collecting odds and sods to make a bitsa Jazz and thoughts have turned to the finish. Going to go with a spray can nitro job, but can't decide on the colour. So I thought I'd see what my bass playing brothers have to say. At the moment, I'm considering a few options. Here we go... Capri Orange with maple neck with blocks - [currently winning in my head!] Ocean Turquoise Metallic with dot and bound rosewood neck & matching headstock [pic is faded LPB, but you get the idea] One of the Fender pastel colours with a dot and bound rosewood neck and matching headstock This will be my first spray finish, so thinking I may want to avoid the metallic as that can be a bit trickier it would seem. Any advice, tips, do's and don't do's would be appreciated! Cheers folks.
CamdenRob
All of those colors look fantastic, I thing the Orange just takes it. Have you ever looked at the Peterbuilt facebook page? that man knows how to finish a bass... https://www.facebook.com/pages/Peterbuilt-Basses/300518246647095

Lozz196
60s pastel, but has to be a tort plate.
umcoo
A tort guard!?
Donnyboy
Orange, or the pastel without the matching headstock , I'd say.
miles'tone
I like all three, much more interesting than the usual, although I am a sucker for the '60s pastels. Daphne blue and tort have been on my bucket list for some time.
planer
In no order except my personal preference: 1. Orange 2. Orange 3. Orange I'm liking the blocks and natural headstock too. However, waving a bright orange axe, you may get more attention than the average bass player. Result!
alyctes
Pastel pink
bh2
Love that Capri... I have a capri orange P... looks great with the pearl... Then I'd go Sonic Blue, Salmon/Shell Pink... then white.
discreet
Vintage white, black guard, maple. Surprising, I know.
bh2
Has to be tort on white, rose board... you know that!
TheGreek
Vintage pastels with a white guard...there's a thread here somewhere which allows you to design your own Fender..possibly something to play with to help you decide...
dannybuoy
I voted orange, but after looking at the pics I now prefer that seafoam green with the white plate and rosewood board.
miles'tone
I'm leaning towards the Capri orange. Ahem, 'get me bomber jacket... Really, the orange is very cool. Edited July 15, 2014 by miles'tone
theyellowcar
Pastel every time - surf green or sonic blue if you want my two penneth. However I don't think the ocean turquoise picture does the colour justice - I've seen some really stunning examples in the past!
umcoo
Thanks all so far! Yellowcar - agreed that the OTM isn't as good as it could be. It seems to be a pretty difficult colour to capture just right. Pastel's currently winning - I'm unsure which way I'd go with that. I love the Seafoam and Surf Greens, so probably that way. Keep votes coming, build thread to follow in a few months!

bh2
The pastel colours demand a white/pearl/mint type guard... absolutely no tort. Just my opinion of course!
umcoo
Definitely agree bh2 on the tort issue. Seen that Sonic Blue Jazz a few times and always think it looks great. Kind of thinking of going Seafoam and rosewood at the moment. Ash body from Guitarbuild came in the post today, but missed it so probably pick it up this weekend. Stoked!
