GUI101 Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Hi All, I have a 3u rack with a DHA pre and a 1u power amp on the way, I was thinking of a BBE sonic maximizer for the final space but thought I would ask here if anyone had any other suggestions. Cheers Gui Quote
JapanAxe Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Ventilation. Or put your double post in the gap Quote
molan Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Wireless receiver or a funky tuner that spells your name (or any message you care to display) when it's not in 'tune' mode Quote
Lozz196 Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 Dbx compressor as Discreet says, or a tuner (with multi lights as recommended by Molan). Quote
chrismuzz Posted July 17, 2014 Posted July 17, 2014 If it was me, and I didn't use pedals, I would go for a compressor / noise gate. That would be one perfect rack!! Quote
NancyJohnson Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Wouldn't it be a thing if someone made a 1U pizza oven. P Quote

P [/quote] Surely if you found an amp that ran hot and added some insulation. By the end of the gig you might be getting somewhere. Quote
JapanAxe Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Coin-operated PP3 battery dispenser for the guitarist's use. Quote
Ghost_Bass Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Furman power conditioner would be my choice, a tuner you can have on a pedal (and act as a mute at the same time), the same applies to a comp. I would rather have a pedalboard in front of me and use the extra space for the conditioner as it may save you from headaches caused by faulty venue electic instalations. Quote
winterfire666 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) about 10 years ago i used to have a rack and in the final space i had a piece of brass custom cut out with my band name and backlit it with mini cold cathode tubes, it looked amazing and added ventilation too. i still have the brass panel somewhere :^) Edited July 18, 2014 by winterfire666 Quote
ahpook Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Do any 1U rack tuners have a standby mode where the light goes from side to side so it looks like a Cylon ? Cos that's what you want. Quote
Monckyman Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 As above power conditioner. If you could mount that on the rear rack (if deep enough),then a dbx compressor, which would outclass your average pedal. Quote
GUI101 Posted July 18, 2014 Author Posted July 18, 2014 Thanks for the suggestions guys, Have searched high and low for the pizza oven and death rays but no joy I'm afraid. But in other news, I like the look of the dbx compressors. The 166xs seams to be within budget too, has anyone used one of these? Or is the 160A the one to go for? Cheers Gui Quote
GUI101 Posted July 18, 2014 Author Posted July 18, 2014 Just another question, The dbx manual says that an eq should be used in the 'sidechain' when using with a multi-way speaker as the compressor will be before the crossover. I have an EAD 212 which is a 3 way design. Is this a must or will it not make any difference? Sorry if this sounds dumb, but this is my first rack set up, so can do with all the advice/help I can get. Cheers Gui Quote
SubsonicSimpleton Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Plenty of good info about compressors for bass guitar on this site http://www.ovnilab.com/faq.shtml Quote
discreet Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 The 166XS is not bad, and more affordable, but if you can step up to a 160A, that's the one to go for. Sounds great with bass and it's very easy to set up. Quote
Bassman Steve Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 +1 for the Korg tuner. Dirt cheap for what you get - includes a lead tester as well. Looks damned cool too! Quote
Stealth Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Air Its light cheap and vastly underrated if i had known i could have stuck a 1u vented cover in the package with the amp. Quote

tauzero Posted July 24, 2014 Posted July 24, 2014 Wireless. It's nice not worrying about treading on your lead. Or go to the marketplace and see if anyone fancies swapping your 3U case with a 2U one, thus averting temptation and saving money. Quote
Dave_the_bass Posted July 25, 2014 Posted July 25, 2014 Swap rack for a 4 (or more) and do all of the above! Quote
