uk_lefty Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Hi folks, Just trying to find out the differences between these two reissue basses, the 57 and te 62 precision. The 57 has the maple fingerboard... That's the only obvious difference but is there anything like neck shape or pickup nuances to consider? I can't find reliable English language info anywhere. Thank you Quote
Lozz196 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I don`t know if the Japanese ones follow the same trends as the US, but if so the neck on the 57 will be wider - 44mm, as oppose to the "regular" width of the 62, being approx 41mm. Again if following the same form, the 57s are supposed to have a brighter sound in comparison to the 62s. Quote
Geek99 Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 (edited) Plates and knobs might be different I would ask mckendrick - he seems like an expert on things CIJ to me Edited July 18, 2014 by Geek99 Quote
gareth Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 regarding usa ones - difference is ash/alder maple/rosewood anodised/torty - both have C necks - 1 3/4" at nut Quote
sblueplanet Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 I have a jap '57 with all maple neck and it is wider than the '62 version. The tone is a lot brighter too compared to the mellow of a '62. Would like one of each actually, great basses. My two Fender jazz are also jap made. Quote
LukeFRC Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I had a '57 - great basses - dig and the maple neck makes it all get a bit grindy great fun Quote
Cat Burrito Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Both are brilliant basses, I've owned both. As said the 57 is slightly wider at the nut and there is a small difference in tone that you only really notice if you play them alongside each other but basically both deliver classic P tones. I played the 57 for years and years. The 62 lasted a fair while with me too Quote
