Next time, or such a specialised item like a 7 string bass- just pay your basschat subs and advertise it on here! cheers LukeFRC
I have paid my basschat subs for the year some time ago! warwickhunt
I understand that it is not a popular decision to bail out of a sale, but fiatcoupe was fine with it and we talked out the situation and ended on a friendly basis. Please take note from this and dont witch hunt until both sides are heard. I have a decent reputation on here, and don't really want it destroyed over a misunderstanding.
Sorry Russ but it isn't a case of witch-hunt or a misunderstanding, though 'scumbag' may be a strong term. However, you backing out of a legitimate ebay sale is wrong... period! You don't seem to be disputing this fact so the OP is well within his rights to have posted about his grievance. Whether the fact that you are a BCer has changed his view on the sale is between the two of you. Just saying! blamelouis
Nice, real nice... This thread is about me and my 7 string jazz.... Having just phoned fiatcoupe he tells me this thread was started prior to actualy contact by me to him regarding this... I made contact with him pretty much as soon as the auction ended, but alas i was too late and this thread was started... This is a bit of a dangerous precedent here... it seems that a fair chunk of band wagon jumping has occurred without people actually knowing the full facts. Luckily fiatcoupe is very reasonable and our chat (over the phone minutes ago) cleared up a few things in terms of timelines etc. The end result being we did indeed amicibly agree to not go through with the sale, (I am happy to provide text message transcripts of our convos if he is happy for me to disclose them) Nothing is a miss here, nothing sketchy was done, nothing underhanded and nothing that deserves me being called a scum bag... which is just childish in my opinion. Thanks, Russ.
Well I've heard both sides and anybody that buys anything from you on here does so at their own risk. Anybody that reneges on a sale is a con man plain and simple. No luck can come from that bass. Good day sir and don't darken my pm box again.
binky_bass
I was 100% clear with the buyer, if there was any bad vibes or bad words etc we would have dealt with it at the time. I requested to cancel the sale, he agreed, if he did not agree then we would be in a different situation. Fact is I asked to cancel, he said yes. I do not see how this is wrong doing. Being classed as a con man because you don't know the facts is ridiculous and very narrow minded. I spoke to fiatcoupe and he said he will add a post to clear things up. So I am hoping he does as this is all very out of hand. My god this is crazy... Not something i expected. And as for morally worng, yes, I would agree if i'd taken his money and never sent the bass, but i sent him the text I did saying I really didnt want to sell it, blah blah, youve all read it... and fiatcoupe said ok, no worries, what else am i suppose to do? Yes I should have put a reserve, this was discussed with fiatcoupe, we spoke in a friendly way and ended things in a friendly way, so i dont understand this epically unreasonable reaction from assumptions. This is our issue, not yours, we dealt with it happily between us and that is it. Fiatcoupe, your thoughts here would be very appreciated man! stingrayPete1977
Its not a witch hunt, so what you found a fellow basschatter who was happy to let you go back on your words, ive had it done to me so many times on ebay that it boils my piss. I said in the first place that its good that you were honest in your reasoning rather than coming up with a silly story about it being stolen or broken after the sale, still a poor show imo
binky_bass
Prehaps its not the most honor worthy thing I have ever done in my life, but Fiatcoupe did agree, it was not contested. If it was, we would be having a very different discussion. It was agreed by both parties... and i was honest from the outset and transparent about EVERYTHING. If i'd of seen this thread before, I would have been transparent all the way, as I have been with fiatcoupe from the outset and as I have been now. binky_bass
In addition, I have withdrawn the bass for sale, and have asked the one person who PM'd about the bass to read this thread first before going any further with his interest on this bass. stingrayPete1977
So you are saying if he had said no you would have sold it for nearly half what you are asking on here for it? If we did not know you and fiatcoupe on here and just saw the bass relisted on ebay with a buy it now for £550 a week after it had sold for £300 we would be saying what a w***er ebay timewaster wouldn't we? Rowley Birkin QC
Just for a reality check, if you'd put this through a real auction house, what do you think the outcome would have been? You would have been obliged to sell it, as it's a legally binding contract.......as is Ebay. The reality is, when you listed it, you were happy with the contract terms (by implication), however, you weren't at the end of the sale. You broke the contract because it didn't suit you anymore. Not a cheat, but morally bankrupt.
Woodinblack
Yes, I would leave bad feedback so that people in future know to be careful dealing with someone that does that. Edited July 22, 2014 by Woodinblack
binky_bass
The fact of the matter is you are entitled to your opinion, I cant change that, but I would of thought an in depth explanation would help remedy this opinion, that doesnt seem to be the case. I've been open and honest, I've discussed this with the buyer, and if the buyer insisted on following through with the purchase, denying my request to cancel the auction, the case could easily have been that I would of had little choice but to sell it. that wasn't the case though, The buyer granted my request, that really should be the end of it, there were no bad words between us, so I don't know why everyone else thinks this is the crime of the century. If I had been rude with fiat, or been totally unreasonable I would share your opinion, but he granted my request with no hard feelings. Below is out text convo.... Hi mate I'm the guy who won the bass on eBay! Are u on basschat? I am, (binky_bass). Did you get my message on ebay and my request to cancel the auction? I'm really sorry mate, but I simply can't let it go for that little! I should have put a reserve on it or something, I guess niche instruments simply don't do well on eBay. Russ. Ok I do remember this on basschat! How much u are looking for it? And just because it's you(basschatter) I'm not gonna leave any feedback and I'll accept the request now I really appreciate that mate, it's totally my bad for not putting a reserve on it. To be brutality honest, my bottom line on this would be £470 and that would include insuranced postage. I will be listing it on basschat in a few days for £550 not including postage. Again, really sorry man and thanks again, Russ. Hey Russ don't worry mate ! Try to sell for more if you can;-) hey mate I'm actually having problem to cancel the winning! When I press the respond now opens a new page and says it's invalid! Any clue? Not sure man, haven't really done this before! On my side it says if you don't respond in 7 days the cancellation goes through anyway so if you don't figure it out then just leave it and it will sort itself! Thanks man. I'll try do it on my laptop!
binky_bass
Seems amicible and friendly to me... no bad words, no negitivity at all, so the cancellation went through with no issues. If it was not amicible, things would be different. I've said my piece, sorry for any issues this has caused, but I've said everything I can say, and been as open and honest as humanly possible. Hopefully this wont be the demise of me on Basschat...

binky_bass
There are no differing standards, however given the fact the buyer was happy to cancel the sale, that fact changes this. You act as if I have committed a crime... I asked to cancel the sale, he said yes. Why is this anything more than that? warwickhunt
Read post #1... patently the OP was NOT happy at the time. Aside from whether the OP has changed his mind in the interim doesn't deflect from the fact that you committed to an ebay sale and then when you didn't get what you wanted you (politely) welched on a contract. However, I have a feeling the thread will be locked because your statement doesn't quite pan out Kev. binky_bass
As the person being debated here I am happy for this discussion to remain open. However the input of fiatcoupe would be very welcome right now to confirm what I have said.
binky_bass
Also can we refrain from using derogatory terms... it seems that you're insistent on not listening to the fact I asked the seller to cancel and he said yes... not sure that's 'welching' when you get a request granted. Again this does need fiatcoupe to weigh in here to set things straight.

I'd not have just thrown my hands up and said 'OK we'll cancel the deal because you wanted to save on ebay fees and didn't put a reserve', in fact part of my feeling regarding this is because I've had it done to me on numerous occasions on ebay and it stinks! Last occasion was a few months and I told the seller to stick it and refused his online request to cancel the sale. Though this is just my view of the matter of general ebay matters and not directed at any person who may or may not be discussed in this thread.
