I think for me, my number one album I totally adore, musically, tonally and production is Talk Talk - The Colour of Spring. I think Supertramp - Breakfast in America would also be included. Simple Minds - Street Fighting Years is also a great album.

Interesting. The Colour of Spring is a great album but doesn't come up much on lists like these. I've got it, but I haven't played it for ages. I'll have to give it another spin! :-)

I could say Bjork's back catalogue, as I still listen to all her albums from Debut to Biophelia, but if I were to choose one, it would possibly be Homogenic (though that would be in tight contention with Post & Verspertine).

Other's are...

Daft Punk - Homework
Kurt Elling - Nightmoves
Pearl Jam - Ten
Roni Size - New Forms
Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense
Gungor - A Creation Liturgy

There's probably others that I'll think of later. :)

My rule: one album per artist, but cheating is good, m'kay?

AMM: AMMMusic
Colin Blunstone: Ennismore
André Boucourechliev: Archipel 3
John Coltrane: Ascension
Miles Davis: Bitches Brew
Egg: The Civil Surface
Gentle Giant: The Power and the Glory
Hatfield and the North: The Rotters' Club
Karin Krog: some old (titleless?) album with John Surman
Motorpsycho: Angels and Daemons at Play
National Health: Complete
Krzysztof Penderecki: Threnos
Propaganda: A Secret Wish
Scritti Politti: Cupid & Psyche '85
John Surman: The Amazing Adventures of Simon Simon (not really but it's a way cooler title than those boring reflections and withholding patterns)
David Sylvian: Secrets of the Beehive
Iannis Xenakis: Persephassa
Yes: Close to the Edge
Zappa: The Mothers of Prevention

I could go on for years...

Yardbirds/Roger The Engineer - bought this because of the Stranglers covering Over Under Sideways Down but it's really grown on me. The Yardbirds have risen in my estimation from PsychBeat also rans to sixties rock must-haves. The rocked up blues are great but I also have a soft spot for Keith Relf's whimsical ditties.

60s pop psych perfection.

Music is just the BEST thing ;)
[/quote]

There's a slight possibility I'm somewhat slanted in my view, seeing as that I'm a musician, but:
- I LOVE the theatre. In competition with music, it stands no chance.
- I LOVE novels. In competition with music, they stand no chance.
- I LOVE poetry. In competition with music, it stands no chance.
- I LOVE paintings. In competition with music, they stand no chance.
- I LOVE sculptures. In competition with music, they stand no chance.
- I LOVE film art. In competition with music, it stands no chance.

Music is just the BEST thing. :)

BTW; I could write a long winded serious post about this, but you wouldn't wanna read it and I don't wanna write it. The gist stays the same: music is un-effing-believably effective in its strength as to moving people... and then to think how abstract it normally is... (or exactly because of that).
I'd say music is just the BEST thing. :o

Clear Spot - Cap'n Beefheart
Darkness on the Edge of Town - Bruce
