BigGuyAtTheBack Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 UFO 'Doctor, Doctor' played at Garlogie Village hall 1994. Quote
eightbitraptor Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 (edited) Think we opened with a cover of this - Easyworld, Other Man. They're from Brighton and our guitarist was a massive fan at the time. Super simple but massively fun. For some reason we could never play this at the right speed, we always used to play it super fast! Nice intro though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QyXULH_QOLk Edited August 11, 2014 by icastle Links fixed. Quote
Dr.Dave Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Thin Lizzy's 'Jailbreak'. Askern Miner's Welfare WMC - 1978. 'Tonight there's gonna be a jailbreak - somewhere in this town' it goes. I presume that 'somewhere' will be the prison , then ! Quote
gadgie Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Not gigged on bass yet, but Teenage Kicks was the first on the guitar Quote
TomKent Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Rio - Duran Duran. My fingers fell off at the end.. Quote
tauzero Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 Back in the USSR by the Beatles at a hall of residence gig at International Hall in That London, a month or so before I dropped out of university. So that would have been 1976. Quote
SpaceChick Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Fleetwood Mac - I need your love so bad That was on the bass. However, first song I ever played live was "The Entertainer" on a descant recorder in a Butlins talent Competition when I was 9 and I won! I still have the photo of me on the stage with my winners certificate!! I may dig it out later After that, it was Spanish Classic guitar, then the oboe and then I finally got to the bass Quote
Bassman Steve Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Can't remember precisely which song but a school assembly playing songs from Babbacombe Lee by Fairport Convention and telling the story. Quote
chris_b Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Spoonful, Howlin Wolf. The greatness of it totally went over the heads of our Ruislip youth club audience. At the end the singer announced the last number just as the main lights went on. The caretaker who was walking down the room shouted, "Don't bother mate, they've all gone home!" Ah, showbiz. Quote
great harry Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 House of The Rising Sun in 1975, badly. Things started to go downhill after that high point. Quote

Leonard Smalls Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Who knows! We were all terribly off our faces - for all the early gigs we just plugged in and played with no real idea what we were going to do. For up to 4 hours. Poor audience! Quote
FlatEric Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 I have been thinking about this, since this thread started and to be honest. . . . . I have no idea! Ahhhhh, the Seventies!! Quote
Chiliwailer Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Great thread! Mine was at the singers birthday bash. Fight for your right - Beastie Boys Quote

Geek99 Posted August 5, 2014 Posted August 5, 2014 I've never actually gigged but I did have lessons and my teacher (quickly) showed me the bones of stand by me and then made me play it straight away whilst he played telecaster. Deep. end Nerve racking, magical, transporting. He told me after: "you're quite a lot better than you think" Quote
