chrkelly Posted July 30, 2014 Posted July 30, 2014 (edited) I've seen another fretless that I've just got to have so this is up for sale. Standard early 60's spec, alder body, maple neck, factory lined & dotted rosewood board, single coils, reverse tuners. Sounds like it should be worth a lot more money! It's a very resonant instrument with very jaco sounding back pickup, looks the part too. Plenty of dings & pitting on the metalwork as is normal for a 30yr old bass. £400 collected from London SOLD! White Cloud Posted August 1, 2014 Posted August 1, 2014 I used to own one of these in the 80's and it was better than my vintage Fender jazz. This is a lot of bass for the money.
chrkelly Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 Cheers Cloud, it's a cracking instrument!
MrT-Bass Posted August 2, 2014 Posted August 2, 2014 Mmmm...i've been thinking about a fretless recently. Where are you based? I'm in north-west London.
chrkelly Posted August 3, 2014 Author Posted August 3, 2014 No worries Zinnsky. [quote name='MrT-Bass' timestamp='1406991779' post='2516509'] Mmmm...i've been thinking about a fretless recently. Could meet up in town if you want, though you wouldn't be able to try it out first.
CBR75 Posted August 3, 2014 Posted August 3, 2014 Beautiful bass. A bargain at this price. But it probably isn't a 1982 model as its Tokai indicates it is more likely a post 83-84 model. Before 84 After 83-84 :

Done a bit more research & it looks like it's from '84. Apparently they changed the headstock shape in '85. Wish all companies would just use a serial system that you could work out easily!

guitarjong Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Do you know if this is a factory model or has it been defretted at some point? Thanks
Rumple Posted September 16, 2014 Posted September 16, 2014 Pretty sure it's a Jaco model and came like that from the factory. I had an early 80's Tokai Jazz Sound for years it was bloody excellent.
chrkelly Posted September 16, 2014 Author Posted September 16, 2014 (edited) I'm pretty sure it's a factory fretless. Here's the 1984 catalogue pic... The only differences are the p style knobs, which were probably changed by a previous owner. [attachment=171850:v812.jpg] Edited September 16, 2014 by chrkelly
