harrypatrickgolding
Anyone got pictures of a S.U.B Sterling Walnut Satin bass 4 string without pickguard? I'm thinking about taking mine off, I wanna see what it looks like. Cheers, Harry.
Cameronj279
Why don't you take it off and check? It takes 5 minutes...
antnee
Just take it off, really easy to do and you can do it without taking strings off. I did it to my white one and it looked good, just didn't want the holes!
harrypatrickgolding
Because my tools are with a friend. Let's have a look antnee... Edited August 1, 2014 by harrypatrickgolding
stingrayPete1977
What is the pickup route like on them, early stingrays just had a big rectangular hole then they started to follow the pickup shape in the early 80s to allow clear guards to be fitted, or like Flea and Tim Commerford, no guard. antnee
I'm afraid I have no pictures as I put the guard back on. It's newer routing, only visible holes are left from the gaurd screws.
harrypatrickgolding
I just tried it and it looks stunning but I noticed scratches on the pickguard and I hold the pickguard when plucking the E, so for me back on it went. And pickguard does make it look better.

stingrayPete1977
Yes a clear guard would work well, nice to see they have gone to the trouble of a proper route around the pickup too
chrismuzz
That looks awesome! Another vote here for a clear guard
antnee
I'm tempted by a mirrored gaurd for mine, something bit different!

harrypatrickgolding
Yeah it does look great except the holes where the screws were. And the fact it is two slightly different shades from where the pickguard was. Thanks for the suggestions.
jrixn1
Mine's honey burst -- but the correct pickguard colour is, of course, aged pearl
harrypatrickgolding
Wow, nice! What does it look like without a pickguard. I'd imagine even more beautiful.

harrypatrickgolding
Wow, that looks really cool. I prefer S.U.Bs look over Stingrays. It would be cool if they sold them without pickguards and you could buy one separate, if you wanted one and attached it yourself.

I have owned 6 Rays so far and had many more pass through my hands, they look very very similar to me, I thought that was the point, Lol

(even if you'd have to import it yourself)... they have a few other satin finishes, and an interesting metallic red one too...

harrypatrickgolding
Yeah I meant the finishes such as the satin colours like blue, red, walnut on the S.U.Bs . On ray34 vintage cream, mint green with rosewood. On ray35 with the cool circular plate instead of the usual 5 string plate (which I don't like). And the bridges seem bigger on the ray4 and ray 34 series than on SOME stingrays. There are all nice. I don't think many stingrays have those colours.
